The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, in collaboration with Trilegal, is proud to announce the National Article Writing & Presentation Competition on Labour & Employment Laws (NTC‑LEL 2026). Organized by the Centre for Labour Laws (CLL), NLIU, this flagship initiative is designed to advance meaningful scholarship in labour and employment law, bridging academic inquiry with professional practice.

About the Organizers:

  • National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal
    Established in 1997 under the Rashtriya Vidhi Sansthan Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, NLIU is recognized by the UGC and the Bar Council of India. Since its first academic programme in 1998, NLIU has been committed to delivering multidisciplinary legal education, equipping students with modern skills to excel in the evolving legal profession.
  • Centre for Labour Laws (CLL), NLIU
    Founded in 2019, CLL is a student‑run initiative dedicated to promoting awareness, research, and reform in labour and employment law. Its flagship project Mazdoor Mitra gained national recognition during the COVID‑19 pandemic for supporting migrant workers. Today, CLL collaborates with policy experts, academicians, and professionals to foster dialogue and action on workforce issues.
  • Trilegal
    One of India’s leading law firms, Trilegal is consistently ranked among top‑tier practices. Its Labour & Employment team is renowned for expertise in regulatory frameworks, strategic counsel to multinational corporations, and contributions to policy debates. Trilegal’s involvement ensures that the competition combines academic rigour with real‑world relevance.

About the Competition:

The competition is structured in two phases:

Phase I – Manuscript Submission & Editorial Review

  • Open call for submissions on practice‑oriented themes.
  • Rigorous four‑stage double‑blind review by the CLL Editorial Board:
    • Two technical checks (compliance, structure, citation accuracy).
    • Two substantive reviews (originality, depth of research, clarity, contribution).
  • Top 15 manuscripts shortlisted for Phase II.

Phase II – Presentation & Defence Round

  • Shortlisted authors present and defend their research before a panel comprising senior Trilegal members, academicians, and labour law specialists.
  • Focus on oral advocacy, critique response, and scholarly engagement.
  • Final round scheduled at J.S. Verma Memorial Convention Centre, NLIU Bhopal.

  • Submission Deadline: January 22, 2026
  • Results Announcement: February 22, 2026
  • Final Presentation Round: March 8, 2026

The competition focuses on contemporary developments shaping the future of labour and employment law, including:

  • Technology, AI governance & digital workforce transformation
  • Data governance, algorithmic management & workplace surveillance
  • Gig economy regulation & worker protections
  • Corporate restructuring, M&A & workforce integration
  • New labour codes, industrial relations & collective bargaining
  • Future of work & employment policies

Sub‑themes include:

  • Labour due diligence in M&A transactions
  • Employee transfers and compensation harmonisation
  • Gig worker classification and social protection frameworks
  • AI‑driven performance evaluation and bias mitigation
  • Remote work policies and cross‑border compliance
  • ESG disclosures on workforce diversity
  • Arbitration and dispute resolution in employment contracts

Submission Guidelines:

  • Categories:
    • Articles: 4,000–10,000 words
    • Essays/Short Articles: 2,000–4,000 words
    • Case Comments: 2,500–5,000 words
    • Book Reviews: 1,500–3,000 words
    • Legislative Comments: 2,000–4,000 words
  • Abstract: 250–300 words, concise and original.
  • Formatting:
    • Title: Times New Roman, size 14, bold, centred.
    • Abstract: Times New Roman, size 12, single‑spaced, justified.
    • Main text: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 spacing, justified.
    • Citations: Footnotes in Times New Roman, size 10, single‑spaced, strictly OSCOLA (4th Edition).
  • Plagiarism Policy:
    • Zero tolerance; similarity index above 15% leads to outright rejection.
    • No uncited material permitted.
  • Co‑authorship: Up to two authors allowed.

  • Eligibility: Open to students pursuing LL.B. (Hons.) / LL.B. / LL.M. in academic year 2025–26.
