About the Journal:
The Socio-Legal Review (SLR) is a peer-reviewed, bi-annual, open-access journal published by the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. Established in 2005 with support from the Modern Law Review, SLR encourages interdisciplinary research at the intersection of law and social sciences, particularly in the South Asian context.
SLR has been cited by the Supreme Court of India in landmark judgments such as Justice KS Puttaswamy v. Union of India (2018) and Joseph Shine v. Union of India (2018), underscoring its scholarly impact.
Categories for Submission:
- Articles (5000–10,000 words): Full-length research papers offering original arguments and detailed exploration.
- Notes from the Field (3000–5000 words): Narratives documenting fieldwork observations or insights.
- Case/Legislative Comment (3000–5000 words): Critical analyses of recent judgments or legislation, considering social and political contexts.
- Book Reviews (3000–5000 words): Review essays of recently published works in socio-legal studies. (Unsolicited reviews not accepted; not peer-reviewed).
Submission Guidelines:
- Co-authorship allowed: up to three authors.
- Manuscripts must be submitted in Word format with all identifying information removed.
- Formatting:
- Font: EB Garamond, size 12.
- Spacing: 1.5 (main text), single (footnotes).
- Citation: OSCOLA 4th Edition, with pin cites.
- Spelling: British English (e.g., labour, recognise, judgement).
- Style: Use short forms (e.g., the Act), Oxford comma, and proper quotation formatting.
How to Submit?
- Submit manuscripts via the Digital Commons Platform by clicking Submit Article.

Editorial Process and Timelines:
- Internal Review (2 weeks): Desk review + evaluation by two editors.
- Peer Review (4–6 weeks): Subject-matter experts provide comments; authors must revise within 3 weeks.
- Finalisation & Publication (6 weeks): Copy-editing, author confirmation, typesetting, and possible advance online publication.
Conditions for Publication:
- Authors must incorporate editorial/peer-review feedback.
- Manuscripts cannot be under consideration elsewhere; withdrawal is required if accepted by another journal.
The Forum:
SLR also runs a Forum for short essays/commentary (800–2500 words) on contemporary issues.
- Co-authorship: up to two authors.
- Submissions via email: sociolegalreviewforum@gmail.com.
- Must use hyperlinks instead of footnotes.
- Editorial feedback within two weeks.
- No cross-posting allowed.
Open Access Policy:
SLR provides immediate free access to all content, allowing reading, downloading, copying, and lawful use without embargo. Print editions are available at a reasonable charge.

Authors retain copyright but publish under Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0, permitting non-commercial redistribution, adaptation, and transformation with attribution.
