About Organizers:
KIIT, the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, founded by Prof. Achyuta Samanta in Bhubaneswar in 1992-93, has grown from a modest industrial training institute into one of India’s premier universities. Granted ‘Deemed to be University’ status in 2004 and recognized as an Institute of Eminence, KIIT is globally accredited by ABET (USA) and IET (UK), ranked 16th in India by NIRF, awarded NAAC’s highest A++ grade, and placed in the 601–800 band of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, reflecting its excellence in research, teaching, and international standards.
About KIIT International Model United Nations:
KIIT International Model United Nations (KIITMUN), established in 2013 by students of KIIT, has grown into one of the world’s premier UN simulations, celebrated for its scale and innovation. Gaining global recognition in 2016 by hosting the largest-ever MUN with 2,500 delegates, KIITMUN continues to thrive with recent editions welcoming over 1,200 participants across fifteen committees. This three-day conference, guided by a distinguished Executive Board, offers delegates a unique platform to engage with a diverse international cohort, sharpen diplomatic skills, and deepen their understanding of global governance through interactive sessions and critical discourse.

- Disarmament and International Security Committee: DISEC, operating under the UN General Assembly, addresses global peace and security through disarmament, arms control, non-proliferation, and emerging threats, with its resolutions shaping international norms and collective security efforts.
- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees: UNHCR, established in 1950, safeguards refugee rights under the 1951 Convention and 1967 Protocol. With 20,000+ staff in 130+ countries, it supports protection, resettlement, and addresses statelessness and climate displacement.
- United Nations Commission on the Status of Women: UNCSW, founded in 1946 under ECOSOC, advances global women’s rights and gender equality, shaping key policies like the Beijing Declaration.
- Economic and Social Council: ECOSOC, founded in 1945, is a UN organ coordinating global economic, social, and humanitarian work, and monitoring SDGs.
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change: The IPCC, founded in 1988, is the UN’s top body on climate change, shaping global agreements through scientific reports.
- International Press Corps: The International Press Corps (IPC) simulates global journalism at the UN, where delegates report on negotiations, peacekeeping, and humanitarian issues, interview diplomats, and craft news pieces—highlighting how media shapes diplomacy while ensuring transparency and accountability in international governance.
- Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons: The OPCW, created under the Chemical Weapons Convention, enforces the global ban on chemical weapons and won the Nobel Peace Prize for advancing disarmament and security.
- United Nations Human Rights Council: The UNHRC, created in 2006, is the UN’s main body for promoting and protecting human rights. It addresses violations, advances equality and freedoms, and monitors compliance through reviews and investigations.
- United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Committee: The UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Committee, convened biennially, strengthens global peacekeeping by mobilizing political will, resources, and reforms. It unites ministers and officials to pledge troops, police, and support, promoting accountability, inclusivity, and readiness for UN peace operations.
- Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space: COPUOS, established in 1959 after Sputnik I, ensures space remains peaceful and benefits all humankind. Through its subcommittees and UNOOSA, it oversees governance, debris mitigation, legal frameworks, and equitable access to outer space.
- Organisation of Islamic Cooperation: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), formed after the Al-Aqsa Mosque arson, unites nations across four continents to represent the Muslim world. It promotes solidarity, safeguards Islamic values, and addresses peace, Palestine, terrorism, development, and human rights through cooperation and coordination.
- World Health Organization: The WHO, founded in 1948, is the UN’s specialised agency for global public health. It leads crisis responses, sets health standards, and advances Universal Health Coverage through science, diplomacy, and collaboration.
- United Nations Security Council: The UNSC is the UN’s primary body for maintaining peace and security. It issues binding resolutions, deploys peacekeepers, enforces sanctions, and mediates disputes, with a rotating monthly presidency addressing urgent crises.
- International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals: The IRMCT, created by the UN Security Council, continues the work of the Rwanda and Yugoslavia tribunals. It prosecutes fugitives, hears appeals, supervises sentences, and preserves archives to uphold justice and prevent impunity.
- World Summit on Global Governance: The World Summit on Global Governance is a high-level forum for rethinking how nations address cross-border challenges. Delegates debate climate change, cyber threats, pandemics, migration, and resource competition, while exploring UN reform, ethical technology, and sustainable development to strengthen institutions and shape future policymaking.
