The NLIU Law Review, the flagship peer‑reviewed journal of the National Law Institute University, Bhopal, has established itself over fifteen years and twenty‑five editions as a leading forum for academic research and discourse on contemporary legal issues. Published biannually by students, it is recognized among the top ten law journals in India, indexed in reputable databases, and holds an ISSN. In 2024‑25, its initiatives included the Second NLIU Agreement Drafting and Presentation Competition and the First Chandhiok & Mahajan Article Writing Competition, which drew over 200 submissions, reflecting its commitment to scholarship and student engagement. The journal’s stature is further affirmed by letters of appreciation from Hon’ble Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Ujjal Bhuyan of the Supreme Court of India.

Eligibility:

The Competition fosters dialogue on contemporary legal issues by inviting law students, scholars, and practitioners to showcase their research and writing skills. It is open to undergraduate and postgraduate law students as well as advocates and professionals in the field.

Registration:

Authors will be required to pay a non-refundable registration fee on the designated NLIU ERP Portal [Link of which is given in the description of the registration Google Form] as follows:

PhD Students/Advocates/Scholars/Professionals:-Law Students:
Single Authorship – Rs. 400Single Authorship – Rs. 300
Co-Authorship – Rs. 600Co-Authorship – Rs. 500

Themes:

The competition does not have any thematic restrictions, and the participants will be free to make their submissions on any topic of contemporary legal relevance and policy issues.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. General Guidelines:
  • Deadline: 11:59 PM, 07 January 2025.
  • Topic Requirement: Must address relevant and contemporary legal or policy issues, strictly limited to legal analysis.
  • Prohibited Content: No manuscripts targeting or intending to harm religious, socio‑cultural, or political sentiments.
  • Originality: Work must be original and unpublished; previously submitted or published manuscripts are not allowed.
  • Abstract: Include a 250–300 word abstract summarizing the structure and essence of the manuscript.
  • Plagiarism & Similarity Check: Submissions will be screened for plagiarism, similarity index, and AI‑generated writing.
  • Citation Requirement: Proper citation of authorities is mandatory; paraphrasing without citation counts as plagiarism.
  • Disqualification Grounds: Any plagiarism in the abstract or conclusion leads to immediate rejection.

2. Word Limit and Citation Standard:

  • The word limit for the submission is 3,000 to 7,000 words.
  • The word limit is exclusive of the abstract and the footnotes.
  • Citations must strictly conform to the standards laid down in the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (4th ed., 2012).
  • Submissions must use only footnotes as a form of citation. Speaking or substantive footnotes are highly discouraged.
  • SCC citations for cases must be preferred wherever available.

  • Abstract [Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.15 line spacing, Italics, Justified, 2 cm indent on both sides]

  • Footnotes [Times New Roman, 10 points, 1.0 line spacing, Justified]
  • Acronyms and short forms on the first instance should be spelled out in parentheses. These acronyms or short forms should be followed at all further instances in the manuscript.
  • Names of cases, publications, books, emphasized words and uncommon foreign words should be italicized.
  • Numbers should be written in words, and percentages should be denoted by the ‘%’ symbol.

  • Winner: Internship opportunity at Chandhiok & Mahajan + cash prize of ₹5,000
  • 1st Runner‑Up: Internship opportunity at Chandhiok & Mahajan + ₹3,000
  • 2nd Runner‑Up: Internship opportunity at Chandhiok & Mahajan + ₹2,000
  • Publication: Top three manuscripts will be considered for publication in Volume XV Issue II of the NLIU Law Review (subject to submission guidelines).
  • Certificates: Top ten authors will receive Certificates of Merit.
