About the Conference

The 2nd International Conference on SEPs and Patent Innovation, 2026 is the flagship international conference under the 3rd South Asian Global Intellectual Property Summit, 2026, organised by the Centre for Development of Intellectual Property and Research (CDIPR), Naovina Development of Intellectual Property and Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) and the Open Invention Network (OIN). Powered by the Community for Academic Research and Development (CARD). Building upon the remarkable success of the previous edition, the 2026 Conference aspires to further strengthen global dialogue on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), FRAND licensing, competition law, technology governance, and innovation policy. The 2025 edition witnessed an overwhelming international response, bringing together participants from 96 countries, representing more than 120+ Institutes, research institutions, government bodies, international organisations, think tanks, law firms, corporations, startups, and civil society organisations. This unprecedented global participation established the Conference as one of South Asia’s leading international forums dedicated to the intersection of intellectual property, technology, and innovation governance.

As global technological ecosystems become increasingly interconnected, Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) have emerged as one of the most significant intersections between intellectual property, innovation policy, international trade, digital governance, and competition law. From 6G communications and Artificial Intelligence to Digital Public Infrastructure, semiconductors, autonomous mobility, green technologies, and advanced manufacturing, SEPs are shaping the future architecture of global innovation. The 2026 Conference serves as a multidisciplinary platform bringing together academicians, judges, policymakers, patent professionals, economists, technology companies, engineers, innovators, startups, industry leaders, researchers, and students from across the world to critically examine the evolving legal and policy landscape governing standardisation, innovation, and technology transfer.

The Conference places particular emphasis on emerging developments in FRAND licensing, patent pools, cross-border SEP litigation, competition law, interoperability, open innovation, and international standard-setting. It seeks to explore how developing economies, particularly those in South Asia and the Global South, can actively contribute to and benefit from global standardisation while promoting innovation, equitable market access, and sustainable technological growth.

Conference Objectives

  • Examine emerging legal, commercial, and policy challenges surrounding Standard Essential Patents and global standardisation.
  • Foster international dialogue on FRAND licensing, patent pools, competition law, and technology transfer.
  • Encourage comparative research on SEP regulation across jurisdictions.
  • Promote scholarship addressing innovation governance within developing economies and the Global South.
  • Explore emerging challenges relating to Artificial Intelligence, Digital Public Infrastructure, semiconductors, cybersecurity, and next-generation communication technologies.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between law, economics, engineering, innovation policy, and technology governance.
  • Support evidence-based policy recommendations for creating transparent, inclusive, and innovation-friendly SEP ecosystems.
