About ARC Research Grant 2025-26:

NLU Delhi announces the inaugural ARC (Advancing Research through Collaboration) Grant 2025–2026 to foster multi‑institutional legal research. Recognizing that law is deeply intertwined with social, cultural, economic, and political life, the grant supports collaborative scholarship that brings diverse perspectives together. It aims to generate richer insights, promote interdisciplinary approaches, and advance knowledge beyond individual boundaries.

Objectives of Grant:

  • Foster collaboration between law faculty and social science faculty across universities and research institutions through joint proposals.
  • Support socio‑legal research that advances interdisciplinary knowledge and generates meaningful cumulative outcomes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be faculty in law or social sciences with at least two SCOPUS/Web of Science publications.
  • Teams may include up to three members, with at least one law faculty; the Principal Investigator (PI) must be a regular faculty member with prior project coordination experience.
  • The PI’s institution will be the primary credit recipient, requiring a Consent Letter and coordination of fund distribution; all participating institutions must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
  • Proposals must be standalone projects, not part of a larger research initiative.

Duration and Quantum of Grants:

  • Two annual research grants of ₹7.5 lakhs each will be awarded.
  • Grant duration: 1 year, with mandatory completion within the period. Extensions may be considered only in exceptional circumstances by NLUD.

Application Procedure:

  • Submission: Applications must be submitted online via the official form (link provided at the end of the call) using the Project Coordinator’s email.
  • Required Documents:
    • Signed CV of each team member with contact details
    • List of publications with citations and hyperlinks
    • Research proposal (max 2500 words) outlining objectives, significance, methodology, and questions
    • Progress milestones (max 1500 words) with quarterly targets
    • Budget outline (human resource costs ≤ 70%; foreign travel not eligible)

Selection Procedure:

  • Applications meeting eligibility and documentation requirements will be reviewed by a Research Grants Selection Committee constituted by the Vice‑Chancellor.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interaction and detailed discussion with an interdisciplinary expert panel.
  • Final recommendations will be made for two successful applicants based on the proposal and interview.
  • NLUD may request additional information/documents during the process and reserves the right not to award the grant if applications are deemed unsuitable.

Disbursal of Funds:

  • Institutional Transfer: The grant will be transferred to the institutional account of the Principal Investigator’s host institution.
  • Total Amount: ₹7,50,000, disbursed over 12 months in three tranches:
  • First Tranche – ₹3,50,000: Released at project commencement upon submission of the final proposal, deliverables for the first four months, and a budget statement.
  • Second Tranche – ₹2,50,000: Released after submission of the half‑yearly Compliance Report, deliverables for the next six months, and a Utilisation Certificate (UC).
  • Final Tranche – ₹1,50,000: Released after publication/acceptance of the mandated research article(s).

Completion Outcomes:

  • Publications:
    • One academic paper in a reputed double‑blind peer‑reviewed journal indexed in SCOPUS/Web of Science, with affiliation as “Research Affiliate, ARC Grant, National Law University Delhi”.
    • At least two short‑form pieces (e.g., blog articles, policy briefs, case briefs, or commentaries) with affiliation as “Research Affiliate, ARC Project, National Law University Delhi”.
  • Final Deliverables:
  • Submission of a Final Project Report.
  • Attendance at a half‑yearly meeting with the Monitoring Committee when called upon by NLUD.

Other Grant Conditions:

  • A designated committee will continuously monitor the project, and the Principal Investigator must submit bimonthly reports in the prescribed format, along with responses to any additional queries.
  • In case of unsatisfactory progress or undue delay, the Principal Investigator will be required to refund the entire grant amount.
  • Any additional stipulations or terms will be communicated directly to the selected awardees.

Power to Remove Difficulties and Review of the Policy:

  • The Vice‑Chancellor has the authority to resolve any lack of clarity, difficulties, or absurdities in interpreting or applying the provisions by adopting a reasonable course of action.
  • The policy will be reviewed every two years, or earlier if deemed necessary by the Vice‑Chancellor, who may constitute a faculty committee for the review and will also be part of the committee.
