About the Event:

The National Crime Scene Investigation Competition is a first‑of‑its‑kind experiential learning initiative designed to bridge the gap between theoretical criminal law instruction and practical investigative skills. Hosted by the Presidency School of Law (PSOL), Bengaluru, the competition immerses law students in realistic crime‑solving scenarios, from case file analysis to crime scene simulation, witness examination, and final investigation briefing.

This flagship event aims to nurture critical reasoning, forensic awareness, and professional ethics, preparing participants for careers in criminal litigation, prosecution, defence practice, investigative agencies, and judicial services.

Competition Format:

The event unfolds across four stages, replicating real‑life investigative processes:

  1. Preliminary Round – Case File Analysis
    • Teams analyse FIRs, witness statements, forensic clues, and medical reports.
    • Submission of an Investigation Strategy Document.
  2. Crime Scene Simulation (Physical)
    • Shortlisted teams examine a mock crime scene.
    • Preparation of a Crime Scene Report with sketches, photographs, and deductions.
  3. Witness & Suspect Examination
    • Interaction with trained actors simulating witnesses/suspects.
    • Evaluation based on questioning, credibility testing, and ethical compliance.
  4. Final Round – Comprehensive Investigation Briefing
  • Teams present consolidated investigation files before a jury of lawyers, police officers, forensic experts, and academicians.
  • Assessment on clarity, accuracy, legal justification, and practical application.

Objectives & Learning Outcomes:

  • Strengthen understanding of New Criminal Codes.
  • Develop investigative thinking, logical reasoning, and analytical skills.
  • Gain exposure to forensic documentation, chain of custody, and admissibility of evidence.
  • Enhance communication, teamwork, and professional ethics.
  • Prepare structured investigation reports capable of withstanding judicial scrutiny.
  • Build connections with practitioners, law enforcement, and forensic experts.

Eligibility:

  • Open to undergraduate and postgraduate law students from recognised universities across India.
  • Teams of 3 members with diverse skills in research, analysis, and communication.
  • Prior experience in criminal law or moot courts is welcome but not mandatory.

Jury & Resource Persons:

The panel will include:

  • Retired IPS/CBI officials and senior police personnel
  • Forensic scientists from leading laboratories
  • Senior advocates specialising in criminal law
  • Academicians from reputed law universities
  • Judicial officers (subject to availability)

Prizes:

  • Winner: ₹25,000
  • First Runner‑Up: ₹15,000
  • Best Report: ₹10,000
  • Total Prize Pool: ₹50,000
