Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur (MNLU Nagpur), established under the Maharashtra National Law University Act, 2014, is the 19th National Law University in India. Located in Nagpur, it is a premier public law institution committed to advancing legal education and research.


Concept Note:

Women and children remain among the most vulnerable groups in society, facing systemic discrimination, violence, and barriers to justice. Despite India’s constitutional safeguards and legislative measures, challenges persist in areas such as gender‑based violence, child labour, trafficking, reproductive rights, and cyber exploitation.

This seminar aims to critically examine existing legal frameworks, identify enforcement gaps, and explore reforms to strengthen protection mechanisms. It will bring together academics, legal professionals, policymakers, activists, and students for meaningful dialogue and interdisciplinary research.


Objectives:

  • Examine constitutional and legislative safeguards for women and child rights.
  • Analyze enforcement challenges and barriers to justice.
  • Discuss emerging concerns such as cybercrime and trafficking.
  • Explore policy reforms and institutional mechanisms.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary research and rights‑based approaches.

Themes and Sub‑Themes:

Theme 1: Legal Framework and Constitutional Safeguards

  • Constitutional provisions, key legislations (Domestic Violence Act, POCSO Act, Juvenile Justice Act).
  • Judicial role in expanding rights.

Theme 2: Gender Justice and Women’s Rights

  • Gender‑based violence, workplace rights, maternity benefits.
  • Reproductive rights and bodily autonomy.

Theme 3: Child Protection and Welfare

  • Child labour, trafficking, exploitation.
  • Right to education and juvenile justice mechanisms.

Theme 4: Implementation Challenges

  • Barriers in law enforcement, role of police and judiciary.
  • Socio‑cultural challenges and lack of awareness.

Theme 5: Emerging Issues

  • Cybercrime, online exploitation, digital safety.
  • Globalization and migration impacts.

Theme 6: International Perspectives

  • UN conventions and global standards.
  • Comparative legal frameworks.
  • Aligning national laws with international human rights norms.

Call for Papers:

Academicians, researchers, legal professionals, policymakers, and students are invited to submit papers aligned with the seminar’s themes. Selected papers will be published in an edited book with ISBN, with copyrights retained by authors and Law Mantra Trust.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Abstract: ~250 words, peer‑reviewed.
  • Paper length: 4,000–10,000 words (including footnotes).
  • Citation style: Indian Law Institute, New Delhi.
  • Originality: Plagiarized work will be rejected.
