CALL FOR PAPERS:

The GLC-SPIL International Law Journal is a bi-annual, double-blind peer-reviewed publication of Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Government Law College, Mumbai.

We invite submissions from law students, academicians, researchers, and legal professionals worldwide, offering a distinguished platform to share original, thought-provoking insights into international law.

Founded in 1855, the Government Law College, Mumbai (GLC) proudly holds the distinction of being Asia’s oldest law school and one of India’s most revered legal institutions. For nearly two centuries, GLC has stood at the forefront of shaping the nation’s legal, political, and constitutional landscape.

Its legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of Indian jurisprudence and continues to influence the evolving nature of law and governance both within the country and beyond. Over its illustrious history, the College has nurtured and produced some of the most distinguished minds in Indian legal and public life, cementing its reputation as a cradle of excellence and leadership in the study and practice of law.

At Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, we are committed to advancing legal studies beyond the confines of the classroom and fostering law as a dynamic field of inquiry. As a student-run organisation based at Government Law College, Mumbai, we actively encourage dialogue and cooperation among students and lawyers worldwide.

SPIL Mumbai strives to create meaningful opportunities for the empirical study of international cultures and legal systems, facilitating global interactions and promoting awareness of educational and career pathways in international law. ABOUT THE JOURNAL:

The GLC-SPIL International Law Journal is the flagship publication of Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai. It is a bi-annual, double-blind peer-reviewed journal, published by the students of Government Law College, Mumbai. Beginning with the academic year 2025–26, the Journal will appear in two issues annually:

Issue II: Themed around the Government Law College International Law Summit, serving as a platform for deeper scholarly engagement with the Summit’s central theme.

Issue I: Open to submissions across the broad spectrum of international law, offering contributors the freedom to explore diverse areas in both public and private international law.

THEME:

Theme: International Trade Law

Submissions for Vol. VI(II) of the GLC-SPIL International Law Journal are invited under the broad theme of International Trade Law. Contributors may engage with a wide range of sub-themes, including but not limited to:

  • WTO law and dispute settlement
  • Trade remedies, subsidies, and countervailing measures
  • Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) and Sanitary & Phytosanitary (SPS) measures
  • Digital trade and e-commerce regulation
  • Regional trade agreements and global value chains
  • Trade and development linkages
  • Trade facilitation and investment–trade intersections
  • Emerging issues such as:
    • AI-driven trade regulation
    • Sustainability and climate-related trade rules

SUBMISSION POLICY:

  • Plagiarism: Proven copyright infringement/plagiarism leads to automatic disqualification. The Journal may recall published manuscripts if such issues are later discovered.
  • Originality: Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • No Simultaneous Submissions: The Journal does not permit simultaneous submissions.
  • Format: Manuscripts must be in editable formats (.doc/.docx), renamed as per topic, without author/institution details. PDFs are not accepted.
  • Submission Mode: Only via the prescribed Google Form (link provided). No other mode is accepted.
  • Certificate: Each submission must be accompanied by the Certificate of Originality and Copyright.
  • Conflict of Interest: Any potential conflict must be disclosed in the Google Form.
  • Rights: Authors grant the Journal non‑exclusive rights to publish. Authors retain moral rights and may reuse content with citation.

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES:

Submission Categories:

  1. Long Articles
    • Word Limit: 6000+ words (exclusive of footnotes/bibliography)
    • Focus: In‑depth analysis of public/private international law, comparative regimes, or theoretical frameworks.
  2. Short Articles / Essays
    • Word Limit: 4000–6000 words
    • Focus: Concise analytical pieces on emerging or under‑explored themes in international law.
  3. Case Comments / Legislative Notes
    • Word Limit: 2000–3000 words
    • Focus: Critical evaluation of recent/landmark judgments or analysis of international legal developments in national policies/legislation.
  4. Treaty & Instrument Analyses
    • Word Limit: 2000–3000 words
    • Focus: Examination of treaties, conventions, or customary law instruments, including drafting history and interpretative concerns.
  5. Book Reviews
    • Word Limit: 2000–3000 words
    • Focus: Analytical reviews of recent publications relevant to international law (academic texts, commentaries, practitioner handbooks).

GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

  • Citations & Footnotes: Must follow Harvard Bluebook, 21st Edition. Avoid excessive footnotes/quotations; paraphrasing with proper acknowledgment is acceptable.
  • Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate/postgraduate students, industry practitioners, academicians, and research scholars.
  • Authorship: Maximum of 2 authors per submission. Acknowledgments allowed. Duplicate or overlapping submissions will be disqualified.
  • Abstract: Mandatory; maximum 300 words (exclusive of total word limit). Must clearly indicate the manuscript’s topic.
  • Plagiarism: Limit is 10%. Submissions exceeding this will be disqualified.
  • Originality: Only unpublished work is accepted. Previously published or under‑consideration manuscripts will be disqualified.
  • No Identification: Manuscripts must not contain author names, institutions, or any identifying details.
  • Language: Submissions must be in English, using British spelling conventions (Oxford English Dictionary).

FORMATTING GUIDELINES:

  1. Body Text: Times New Roman, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing.
  2. Footnotes: Times New Roman, font size 10, single line spacing.
  3. Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
  4. Citation Style: Only footnotes (no endnotes), strictly following Harvard Bluebook, 21st Edition.
  5. Style Guide: Authors must adhere to the GLC-SPIL ILJ Style Guide.
