About the Theme:

Sports law is often viewed through contracts, disputes, and arbitration. Yet, some of the most significant developments in sports governance arise outside the courtroom—through media narratives and public discourse.

From doping scandals to athlete rights, journalism plays a pivotal role in shaping accountability and influencing governance. Investigative reporting uncovers institutional failures, opinion pieces frame debates, and sustained coverage compels regulators and federations to act. In this sense, law often follows narrative.

This webinar seeks to broaden the understanding of sports law by situating it within the ecosystem of media, communication, and governance. It will explore how journalism functions as an informal regulator, shaping institutions and influencing policy decisions in sport.

Dr. Soumitra Bose brings over four decades of experience in sports journalism across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.

  • Current Roles: Media Advisor to the Sports Authority of India and Olympics.com
  • Expertise: Doctorate in Real Money Gaming; extensive work in sports content creation and governance.
  • Career Highlights: Contributions to Hindustan Times, Outlook India, The Times of India, and advisory roles with FIFA and the International Olympic Committee.
