National Symposium on Inclusive Education, Technology & Empowerment for Learners with Intellectual Disabilities by IIT-Kharagpur (Virtual Mode). Submission Deadline: 21st November 2025.
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India’s first IIT established in 1951, stands as an Institution of Eminence with a sprawling 2,100-acre campus dedicated to interdisciplinary education, research, innovation, and social impact. Its Centre of Studies & Research for Differently-Abled leads pioneering efforts in disability inclusion through cross-disciplinary research, policy engagement, educator training, assistive technology development, and community outreach, fostering accessible learning and dignified participation for all.
Global views on disability have evolved from charity to rights-based inclusion and empowerment, reflected in India’s Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (2016) and National Education Policy (2020). Despite progress, learners with intellectual disabilities continue to face barriers in education, employment, and dignity due to cognitive and adaptive challenges, compounded by limited resources and social stigma. Promising approaches like inclusive pedagogy, early intervention, assistive technologies, and community-led care offer transformative potential. To advance these efforts, CSRDA at IIT Kharagpur will host a National Symposium online on 6–7 December 2025, uniting stakeholders to co-create inclusive futures.
This symposium marks a vital shift from charity to rights-based inclusion, aligning with the RPwD Act 2016 and NEP 2020. It confronts enduring challenges—lack of trained educators, infrastructure gaps, limited tech access, and stigma—while amplifying the voices of persons with intellectual disabilities and their families. By bridging policy, pedagogy, technology, and community, it fosters practical strategies for inclusive education, showcases effective assistive and EdTech tools, builds interdisciplinary networks, and offers actionable templates for individualized education plans, transition pathways, and community engagement.
1) Plenary Sessions: Keynotes and dialogues on inclusion, technology, empowerment — global and Indian perspectives.
2) Paper Presentations: Research, case studies and practice papers across education, tech, policy, health and inclusion.
3) Training Modules (Learners with ID & Caregivers): Skill‑building, communication & self‑advocacy, daily‑living, digital safety, and community participation.
