ABOUT HIMACHAL PRADESH NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, SHIMLA:

Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla was established in 2016 by a legislative act and began functioning on October 5 that year. It admits students via CLAT for its UG programs (B.A.LL.B. and B.B.A.LL.B.) and offers a one-year LL.M. with four specializations. The university also provides Ph.D. and LL.D. programs in law. Nestled in the Himalayas, HPNLU is known for its interdisciplinary, practice-oriented legal education and has quickly become a sought-after institution. Under strong leadership, it emphasizes holistic student development and attracts faculty from across India.

ABOUT THE CENTRE FOR CRIMINAL LAW AND FORENSIC STUDIES:

The Centre for Criminal Law and Forensic Studies at HPNLU Shimla fosters academic and research excellence in criminal law and forensic science. It emphasizes innovative research on criminal justice, victimology, psychology, and forensic evidence. The Centre promotes knowledge dissemination through projects, publications, and seminars, while also supporting victim advocacy and outreach. It organizes training programs and encourages student engagement via practical exposure like crime scene visits and lab demonstrations.

ABOUT DIRECTORATE OF FORENSICS SERVICES:

The Directorate of Forensics Services, Himachal Pradesh, began in 1988 with the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and has since evolved into a nationally recognized forensic hub. Relocated to Junga in 1996, it expanded into six specialized divisions and now supports regional and national investigations. Key milestones include India’s first Forensic Auditing facility, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation, and UNODC registration for quality assurance. The DFS also joined the Asian Forensic Sciences Network and continues to grow under its second Five-Year Plan (2024–25). Its 33,000 sq. ft. campus in Junga serves as a research and service center for advanced forensic work.

ABOUT THE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (FDP):

The Faculty Development Programme on “Current Trends in Forensic Science Education and Application of Forensic Science in the Administration of Justice,” organized by the Centre for Criminal Law and Forensic Studies at HPNLU Shimla in collaboration with SFSL, aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice in forensic science. It highlights the critical role of forensic experts in crime scene management, evidence analysis, and courtroom testimony, while addressing the growing need for advanced forensic technologies in justice delivery. The programme emphasizes modern teaching strategies, interdisciplinary research, and practical, evidence-based methods to enhance academic and professional competencies. By fostering innovation, employability, and entrepreneurship, it seeks to inspire young academicians and promote impactful, future-ready solutions to contemporary crime and justice challenges.

Educational Visit to State Forensic Science Laboratory, Shimla:

As the final component of the 7-day Faculty Development Programme, participants will visit the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Junga near Shimla. This educational tour will offer firsthand exposure to advanced forensic techniques and real-world applications. The day includes an overview of SFSL’s history and operations, presentations on its six scientific divisions, and guided lab tours with live demonstrations. Interactive sessions with expert scientists will foster dialogue on current challenges and innovations. The visit will conclude with reflections and discussions on future collaborations, marking a meaningful end to the programme.

It aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in a technology-driven academic environment. OBJECTIVE AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

The participants would be able to comprehend real time cases and assimilate research ideas to strengthen criminal justice system. To discuss recent advancements in forensic science education. Learn recent advancements in use of technology to assist criminal justice system. Understand real time problems faced by forensic experts in dealing with different criminal cases. To empower forensic fraternity with enhancing skills for employability and entrepreneurship.

ELIGIBILITY FOR E-CERTIFICATION:

For being eligible for the e-certificate, the participants must fulfil the following conditions:

  • 70% attendance in the programme is mandatory for all the registered participants.
  • All the registered participants are required to fill up the feedback form, the link to the feedback form shall be shared towards the end of each session.
  • A quiz will be conducted at the end of the course in which the participant needs to score a minimum of 50% marks.

The Faculty Development Programme on Forensic Science will be conducted in a hybrid mode, offering participants the flexibility to attend either in person or virtually. This approach is designed to accommodate a wider range of faculty members from various institutions, ensuring greater accessibility and participation. The programme will feature expert-led sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive discussions aimed at enhancing the knowledge and teaching skills of educators in the field of forensic science. Whether attending on-site or online, participants will receive the same high- quality content and opportunities for engagement.

Upon successful registration and payment, participants will receive a confirmation email with further instructions and session details. The registrations can be done through a Google Response Form.
