Over the years, the group has hosted 124 speakers from 77 institutions in 31 countries, engaging with 69 diverse Indigenous groups, and has been recognized for its inclusive practice by the Cambridge Centre for Teaching and Learning. Supported by the Cambridge Heritage Research Centre and the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, ISDG has also organized landmark events such as the 2022 international conference Indigenous Studies in the United Kingdom & Europe: pasts, presents and futures, further cementing its role as a hub for critical, cross‑disciplinary engagement in the field.
Voices of the Land and Sea: Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Futures
Indigenous Studies Discussion Group, University of Cambridge
The Cambridge University Indigenous Studies Discussion Group (ISDG) invites MA/PGR students, early‑career researchers, practitioners, artists, activists, and Indigenous knowledge holders to submit abstracts for a one‑day hybrid symposium on 14 May 2026 in Cambridge.
Inspired by COP30 themes, this event will explore how Indigenous knowledge systems across land and ocean worlds inform climate research, environmental justice, and community‑based practice. The symposium aims to foster dialogue across academia, practice, and lived experience, amplifying Indigenous voices in debates on climate futures.
