About the Journal:

The HPNLU Journal of Disability Studies (JDS) is India’s first National Law School journal devoted exclusively to disability laws and related jurisprudence. It is a blind peer‑reviewed annual publication, providing a platform for:

  • People with disabilities
  • Disability activists
  • Lawyers & policymakers
  • Academics & researchers

The journal encourages first‑person narratives and multidisciplinary approaches, covering legal, socio‑economic, socio‑legal, linguistic, sociological, historical, political, psychological, gender, feminist, and post‑modern perspectives. Its mission is to sensitize society and promote a rights‑in‑action approach to disability discourse.


Categories of Contributions:

  • Articles: 6,000 – 10,000 words
  • Essays & Comments: 4,000 – 6,000 words
  • Book Reviews: 3,000 – 4,000 words (must include a hard copy of the book)
  • Case & Legislative Comments: 4,000 – 6,000 words

All submissions must provide comprehensive, in‑depth analysis of contemporary issues in disability law and related fields.


Submission Guidelines:

  • Language: English only
  • Abstract: 250–300 words, highlighting novelty, usefulness, and contribution beyond existing literature
  • Co‑authorship: Allowed up to one co‑author
  • Formatting:
    • Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 spacing (body)
    • Times New Roman, 10 pt, single spacing (footnotes)
  • Citation: HPNLU‑Shimla Citation Style [link provided in brochure]
  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and anonymized
  • Plagiarism: Submissions with >10% similarity will be rejected
  • Long quotations and multi‑paragraph footnotes discouraged
  • Only authoritative sources permitted (no Wikipedia, blogs, or commercial sites)

Covering Letter:

Authors must submit a covering letter with:

  • Title of paper
  • Name, designation, institutional affiliation
  • Declaration of originality and non‑submission elsewhere

Terms & Conditions:

  • Copyright vests with HPNLU, Shimla
  • Authors bear responsibility for copyright, defamation, or contempt risks
  • Proper acknowledgment of sources mandatory
