About the Organiser

The competition is organised by the Moot Court Society, Department of Law, Assam University, Silchar. Assam University, a Central University established in 1989, houses the Department of Law (est. 2004), offering B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programmes. The Moot Court Society is a student-administered body dedicated to clinical legal training, appellate advocacy, and dispute resolution simulations.

About the Competition

The inaugural Assam University National Moot Court Competition aims to promote rigorous legal research, disciplined written advocacy, and persuasive oral pleading. It will provide a national forum for law students to engage with issues of Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Environmental Law.

Competition Structure

  • Memorial Evaluation Round: Up to 32 teams submit pleadings; top 16 advance.
  • Octa-Finals: 16 teams argue; top 8 advance.
  • Quarter-Finals & Semi-Finals: Knock-out oral rounds judged by senior advocates, scholars, and judicial officers.
  • Grand Finale: Final two teams argue before a designated bench.
  • Time Allocation: 20 minutes per team (10 minutes per speaker, including rebuttal/sur-rebuttal).

Eligibility

  • Open to students pursuing a 3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated LL.B. programme.
  • Participants must be enrolled in a BCI-recognised institution.
  • One team per institution, with authorisation from Dean/HoD/Faculty Convenor.

Team Composition

  • 3 members per team: 2 Speakers + 1 Researcher.

Venue & Mode

  • Mode: Offline, in-person.
  • Venue: Department of Law and Bipin Chandra Pal Auditorium, Assam University Campus, Dargakona, Silchar, Assam – 788011.

Registration & Submission

  • Provisional Registration: Online form submission after reviewing moot proposition.
  • Memorial Submission: Soft copies for Petitioner and Respondent via designated portal.
  • Final Registration: For top 16 teams qualifying for oral rounds; fee payment required.

Fees

  • Provisional Registration & Memorial Round: No fee.
  • Final Oral Rounds: INR 3,000 per team (includes accommodation, boarding, local conveyance, kits, and hospitality).

  • Winners: INR 50,000 + Trophy + Certificates + Kits
  • Runners-Up: INR 30,000 + Trophy + Certificates + Kits
  • Best Memorial: INR 15,000 + Certificates + Kits
  • Best Speaker: INR 15,000 + Certificates + Kits
  • Best Researcher: INR 15,000 + Certificates + Kits
  • Total Prize Pool: INR 1,25,000
