National Law University Odisha – 2nd Kautilya Society Essay Writing Competition

National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack, established under Act 4 of 2008, has consistently advanced learning, teaching, and research in law while fostering professional skills for advocacy, judicial services, and legal practice. Among its many initiatives, the Kautilya Society stands out as a student-led platform dedicated to promoting study, research, and informed deliberation in public policy and allied fields.

In association with the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, the Kautilya Society at NLUO is organizing the 2nd Essay Writing Competition with an open theme on Public Policy. This competition seeks to encourage critical engagement with pressing policy challenges in India, ranging from healthcare and education to environment, technology, and economic regulation.

Event Details

• Theme: Open Theme on Public Policy
• Objective: To add literature to the evolving discourse on Indian public policy, focusing on implementation, accountability, and the intersection of law, governance, and decision-making.
• Eligibility:
  • Students pursuing 5-year/3-year LL.B.
  • Students pursuing 1-year/2-year LL.M.
  • Non-law students with interest in public policy are also welcome.

Submission Guidelines

• Format: .doc/.docx (Word 2007/2010/2013)
• Word Limit: 1500–2000 (excluding endnotes)
• Abstract: 50–100 words (not counted in total word limit)
• Referencing: Hyperlinking preferred; endnotes allowed if hyperlinking not possible
• Font: Times New Roman, Size 12, Line Spacing 1.5, Justified text
• Confidentiality: File name must not reveal author identity (e.g., Title_TeamCode.docx)
• Plagiarism & AI Policy: Similarity index <10%, AI-generated content strictly prohibited (0% AI)
• Grammar, spelling, and punctuation must be error-free

Evaluation Process

1. First Stage: Preliminary clerical check (formatting, plagiarism, AI compliance).
2. Second Stage: Editorial review for novelty, originality, structure, citations, and grammar.
3. Third Stage: External Panel (3–4 members) will select winners and recommend top entries for publication on the Vidhi Blog.

• Registration Fee:
  • NLUO Students: ₹200 (Single), ₹300 (Co-authorship)
  • Non-NLUO Students: ₹300 (Single), ₹500 (Co-authorship)
• Payment Method: Via ICICI Eazypay portal (Institution Name: National Law University; Purpose: KS Essay Writing Competition)
• Submission: Team codes will be allotted post-registration; submission link will be shared accordingly.

Prizes

• Winner: ₹6,000 + Internship at Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy
• Runner-up: ₹4,000
• Second Runner-up: ₹2,500
• Selected essays may be published on the Vidhi Blog subject to approval by the External Panel.
