About the Human Rights Scholarship:
The Human Rights Scholarship 2027 provides comprehensive financial support to graduate research students undertaking a Master by Research or Doctoral degree in the field of human rights. It is open to both domestic and international students, reflecting the University’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and global engagement.
Scholarship Benefits:
- Living Allowance: AUD $44,500 per year (2026 rate, indexed annually).
- Up to 2 years for Master by Research.
- Up to 3.5 years for Doctoral degree.
- Includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave.
- Full Fee Offset:
- Up to 2 years for Master by Research.
- Up to 4 years for Doctoral degree.
- Relocation Grant:
- AUD $2,000 for students moving from outside Victoria.
- AUD $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia.
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC): Single membership for international students requiring a visa.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must:
- Be commencing a graduate research degree in 2027 at the University of Melbourne.
- Undertake research in the field of human rights.
- Not have completed a research qualification at the same or higher level.
Selection Criteria:
- Scholarships are awarded to candidates ranked highest by the selection panel based on academic merit and application quality.
- Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to the peaceful advancement of human rights beyond academics (voluntary work, professional experience, activism).
- Proposed research must show a clear contribution to the human rights field.
