The Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India has invited research proposals under the “Scheme for Action Research and Studies on Judicial Reforms”. The scheme aims to support evidence-based research that contributes to strengthening the justice delivery system and judicial reforms in India.

The details are as follows:

Objective

• To promote action-oriented research and studies that support judicial reforms and improve the efficiency, accessibility, accountability, and effectiveness of the justice delivery system in India.
• To generate policy recommendations and evidence-based solutions for strengthening judicial administration.

Research Areas

Proposals are invited on themes related to judicial reforms, including:

• Scope and Possible Models for Commercial use of Data Generated under the e-Courts
• Scope of Expansion of Virtual Courts as an Effective Alternative to Regular Courts in Petty Offence Cases.
• Issues Related to Digitalization of Courts – A Ground Report.
• Review of Implementation and Functioning of Gram Nyayalayas.
• Institutionalising Pro Bono Culture in India: A Study of Advocate Participation and Role of Pro Bono Clubs in Law Schools under Nyaya Bandhu Programme
• Advancing Access to Justice through Pro Bono Lawyering: A National Study of Nyaya Bandhu Programme Implementation and Impact.
• Bridging the Justice Gap: Evaluating the Reach and Impact of Pro Bono Legal Services under Nyaya Bandhu Programme in India.

Eligibility

Proposals are invited from:

• Judicial Academies
• Law Universities
• Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs)
• Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
• Reputed Universities/Institutions/Organizations working in the areas of:
  • Justice delivery
  • Legal research
  • Judicial reforms

How to Apply?

1. Prepare the proposal in the prescribed format (Proforma).
2. Follow the Scheme Guidelines issued by the Department of Justice.
3. Submit the completed proposal to the Department of Justice for consideration by the Project Sanctioning Committee (PSC).
