The Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, through its Literary and Debating Society of the Integrated Law Course, proudly presents Abhivyakti 1.0 – Asian Parliamentary Debate (APD).

The name Abhivyakti reflects the essence of debating – the freedom and responsibility to express oneself with clarity, conviction, and respect. It invites students from diverse disciplines to engage with motions that cut across law, policy, culture, ethics, and everyday life.

About the Integrated Law Course (ILC)

Launched in 2023 during the centenary year of the Faculty of Law, the 5-Year Integrated Law Course offers:

• B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)
• B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)

The programme blends law with humanities and business administration. Within a short span, ILC students have excelled in national and international moots, ADR competitions, and debating forums, reshaping expectations of young law programmes.

About the Literary & Debating Society

The Society was established to provide students a platform to think, argue, and be heard. Its initiatives include:

• Shastrath – Intra-college Parliamentary Debate
• Feminine Chronicle – Debate on International Women’s Day focusing on gender and equality

It embodies the belief that words have weight, listening matters as much as speaking, and honest dialogue can shape perspectives.

Rules & Format

• Team Composition: 3 members (Prime Minister, Deputy PM, Government Whip / Opposition counterparts)
• Debate Structure: Government vs. Opposition teams
• Motions: Released with three choices; teams opt out turn by turn until one remains
• Speech Duration:
  • Substantive speeches: 6+1 minutes
  • Reply speeches: 3+1 minutes
• Points of Information (PoIs): Allowed between the 1st and 6th minute of substantive speeches
• Iron Person Rule: Permitted once in prelims if a team member is unavailable
• Eligibility: Open to all UG and PG students across disciplines; cross-institutional teams allowed

Timeline

• 20 August 2026: Registrations Open
• 5 September 2026: Registrations Close
• 10–11 September 2026: Preliminary Rounds (Online)
• 23 September 2026: Advanced Rounds (Quarterfinals, Semis, Finals – On Campus)
• 24 September 2026: Valedictory Ceremony

Registration Guidelines

• Each team must consist of three speakers.
• Institutions must provide an extra adjudicator team (N+1 rule).
• Cross-institutional teams are permitted.

Abhivyakti 1.0 is more than a debate tournament – it is a celebration of ideas, perspectives, and the spirit of healthy discourse. It seeks to nurture critical thinking, respectful dialogue, and interdisciplinary engagement, preparing students to be thoughtful advocates and responsible citizens.
