The NITI Aayog Internship Scheme offers law and other students structured exposure to policy-making, governance, and developmental issues in India. Applications are accepted online between the 1st–10th of every month, with internships lasting from 6 weeks to 6 months, unpaid but providing certification upon successful completion.

Introduction:

The NITI Aayog Internship Scheme, announced by the Government of India, provides students and research scholars with an opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to governance, policy formulation, and developmental issues. Interns are placed across various verticals/divisions/units of NITI Aayog, supplementing policy analysis through research, data collation, and empirical studies.

Objectives:

• To allow young academic talent to engage with policy formulation and governance.
• To provide exposure to developmental policy issues and functioning of the Government of India.
• To enable interns to contribute through policy inputs, briefing reports, and empirical analysis.

Eligibility:

• Undergraduate students: Must have completed/appeared in 2nd year exams (4th semester) of a bachelor’s degree and secured minimum 85% in Class XII.
• Graduate students: Must have completed/appeared in 1st year/2nd semester of postgraduate programme or be pursuing research/PhD with minimum 70% in graduation.
• Recent graduates/postgraduates: Eligible within 6 months of result declaration, provided they secured 70% or above cumulative marks.

Duration:

• Minimum: 6 weeks
• Maximum: 6 months
• Interns not completing the requisite period will not receive certification.

Application Process:

• Applications are accepted online only via the official portal
• Submission window: 1st–10th of every month.
• Applications can be made up to 6 months in advance but not later than 2 months before the desired internship month.
• Each candidate may apply only once per financial year.
• Required documents: Original mark sheets and No Objection Certificate (NOC) from college/institution at the time of joining.

• Economics, Agriculture, Education, Energy, Health, Industry, Infrastructure, Urbanization, Environment, Social Justice, Tourism, Sports, Data Management, Foreign Trade, Science & Technology, Skill Development, Mass Communication

Logistics & Support:

• Interns must carry their own laptops.
• NITI Aayog provides workspace, internet, and necessary facilities.
• Internship is unpaid; interns bear their own travel and accommodation expenses.

Certification & Conduct:

• Experience Certificate issued upon successful completion, signed by the Adviser of the concerned division.
• Minimum 75% attendance required.
• Interns must maintain professional conduct and confidentiality.

Key Notes:

• Selection is based on scrutiny by division heads; maximum 3 interns per division (relaxable by CEO, NITI Aayog).
• Interns must submit a report/paper at the end of their assignment.
• Seminars/presentations may be organized during the internship.
• The scheme is subject to periodic review by NITI Aayog.
