International Moot Court Competition on Artificial Intelligence & Intellectual Property Rights – Chandigarh University, 2026

The University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Chandigarh University, proudly announces the International Moot Court Competition on Artificial Intelligence & Intellectual Property Rights (AI & IPR), scheduled from 24th–26th September 2026 at Mohali, Punjab (India). This premier academic event is designed to provide law students with a global platform to deliberate upon the most pressing legal challenges of the digital age.

About the Competition

Artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, economies, and societies, while simultaneously raising complex legal questions concerning ownership, accountability, creativity, and innovation. This competition seeks to foster critical legal thinking and scholarly discourse on these emerging issues through rigorous courtroom advocacy and legal research.

Participants will engage with contemporary legal challenges such as:

  • AI-generated works and copyright ownership
  • Patentability of AI-driven inventions
  • Algorithmic accountability and data governance
  • Trade secrets and innovation policies
  • Regulatory challenges posed by emerging technologies

Through simulated judicial proceedings, participants will refine their advocacy, drafting, research, and oral argumentation skills, while interacting with distinguished judges comprising members of the judiciary, senior advocates, academicians, policymakers, and industry experts.

Objectives

  • Promote academic excellence and legal research in AI & IPR.
  • Provide practical exposure to disputes arising from emerging technologies.
  • Encourage critical analysis of AI-generated creations and innovations.
  • Enhance advocacy, drafting, and oral argumentation skills.
  • Facilitate interaction between students, professionals, and technology experts.
  • Foster discussions on ethical, equitable, and sustainable legal frameworks.
  • Encourage comparative and international perspectives on technology regulation.

Eligibility

  • Open to students pursuing 3-Year LL.B. and 5-Year Integrated Law Programs from recognized institutions.
  • Each institution may register one/two teams.
  • Each team shall comprise two speakers and one researcher.

Awards & Recognitions

  • Winner: ₹1,00,000 + Trophy + Certificate
  • Runner-Up: ₹50,000 + Trophy + Certificate
  • Best Memorial: ₹11,000 + Certificate
  • Best Mooter: ₹11,000 + Certificate
  • Best Researcher: ₹11,000 + Certificate
