About the Competition

The Chair on Consumer Law and Practice, NLSIU Bengaluru announces its 1st Online Moot Court Competition on Consumer Law and Practice 2026. This national-level competition invites law students to engage with contemporary consumer protection issues through rigorous written and oral advocacy. It provides a platform to sharpen research, drafting, and argumentation skills in a competitive, professional setting.

Eligibility

  • Open to students enrolled in B.A. LL.B. or LL.B. programmes.
  • Both members must belong to the same institution.
  • Only one team per college/university is permitted.

Registration Process

  1. Pay Registration Fee – ₹2,000 per team via designated payment mode. [Payment Link: Moot Court Competition – CLAP]
  2. Fill Google Form – Provide details of both team members.
  • Upload Payment Receipt – Attach proof of payment.
  • Upload Authorization Letter – Issued by the institution.
  • Retain Receipt – Keep confirmation for future reference.

Note: Registration is complete only upon submission of the form, payment receipt, and authorization letter.

Rules for Memorial Submission

  • Format: A4, Times New Roman (12 pt text, 10 pt footnotes), 1.5 spacing, 1-inch margins.
  • Memorials: Two per team (Petitioner & Respondent).
  • Word Limit: Arguments Advanced ≤ 3,000 words (10% tolerance allowed).
  • Submission: PDF format only, via official link/email.
  • Identity: Team code only; no names or institutional details.
  • Citations: Consistent style (Bluebook/OSCOLA).
  • Plagiarism & AI Check:
    • Similarity >10% → penalty; >15% → disqualification.
    • AI-generated content >10% → penalty; >15% → disqualification.
  • Contents: Cover Page, TOC, Abbreviations, Authorities, Jurisdiction, Facts, Issues, Summary, Arguments, Prayer.

Competition Format & Advancement

  • Memorial Round: All registered teams.
  • Octa-Finals: Top 8 teams (based on memorial marks).
  • Semi-Finals: Top 4 teams (oral round marks).
  • Finals: Top 2 teams (oral round marks).
  • Result: Winner & Runner-Up decided in Finals.

Awards & Recognition

  • Winning Team: ₹20,000 + Certificate of Excellence
  • Runner-Up Team: ₹15,000 + Certificate of Excellence
  • All Participants: Certificates of participation/achievement

Results & Prize Distribution

Results will be declared on 24 December 2026 at the National Consumer Rights Day event in New Delhi, organised by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India. Venue details will be announced later.
