About NALSA:
The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, is the apex body mandated to provide free legal services to weaker sections of society and to organize Lok Adalats for amicable dispute resolution. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India, serves as the Patron-in-Chief, while Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, is the Executive Chairman. Headquartered at the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi, with its Centre for Citizen Services at Jaisalmer House, NALSA works in close coordination with State Legal Services Authorities to implement policies, extend legal aid, and ensure access to justice across the nation.
Internship Overview:
NALSA offers a one-month internship programme for law students across India. The initiative is designed to provide hands-on exposure to the functioning of NALSA and allied legal services institutions, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of access to justice mechanisms.
Eligibility:
- Open to students pursuing a Three-Year LL.B Course or Five-Year Integrated Law Course from any recognized institution.
- Preference will be given to:
- 3rd–5th year students of the Five-Year Integrated Law Course.
- 2nd–3rd year students of the Three-Year LL.B Course.
Duration:
- Internship period: One month (four weeks).
- Commences on the 1st day of each month.
Application Procedure:
- Applications must be submitted online only via NALSA’s official website.
- Required documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume.
- Expression of Interest (one-page write-up).
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the appropriate authority, mentioning course name and semester/year.
- Application window: Accessible for two months before the preceding month of internship (e.g., for January 2026 internship, forms open from 1 September 2025 to 30 November 2025).
- Selection: Based on draw of lots; decision of the Competent Authority is final.
Certificate of Internship:
- Awarded upon successful completion of the internship.
- Criteria: 90% attendance is mandatory.
- Note: No recommendation letters will be issued by NALSA.
Internship Guidelines:
- No stipend/remuneration; interns must arrange their own accommodation.
- Office timings: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Saturday.
- Interns must carry their own laptops.
- Dress code: Formal Black & White (Bar Council of Delhi standard).
- Discipline and etiquette are strictly enforced; misconduct may lead to termination.
- Internship is full-time and physical; no parallel courses/work permitted.
Internship Schedule:
- Orientation on the first day, introducing NALSA’s objectives and functions.
- Reading materials: SOPs, schemes, modules, reports, and activity briefs.
- Field visits (approx. 10 days) to:
- Delhi State Legal Services Authority.
- District Legal Services Authority.
- Legal Aid Defense Counsel Office.
- National Lok Adalat.
- Exposure to institutions such as Remand Courts, CAW Cells, DM Office, Mediation Centre at the Supreme Court, Supreme Court Library, and Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.
- Closing interaction with NALSA team and group photograph.
