Established in 1882 in Lahore and re-established in Chandigarh post-independence, Panjab University is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious institutions. With over 202 affiliated colleges, it has a legacy of more than 140 years of academic excellence.
Founded in 1889, the Department of Laws has produced generations of judges, ministers, ambassadors, and legal professionals. It has been the alma mater of three Chief Justices of India, including Justice A.S. Anand and Justice J.S. Khehar.

The Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, is hosting a National Conference-Cum-Workshop on “Contemporary Constitutional Challenges in India: Celebrating 76 Years of the Indian Constitution.”
This academic gathering commemorates the enduring legacy of the Indian Constitution, adopted on 26th January 1950, and explores how it continues to evolve in response to social, political, and technological transformations.
The conference will provide a rigorous platform for academicians, practitioners, researchers, and students to deliberate on pressing constitutional issues, including digital governance, privacy, gender justice, institutional accountability, and transformative constitutionalism.
