Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and holistic student development, fostering responsibility among students and scholars to serve society through advocacy, legal services, legislation, and law reforms. The University promotes legal knowledge as an instrument of social development and justice, and its commitment to interdisciplinary research is reflected in the establishment of Centres for Research Excellence, including the Centre for Environment, Sustainability, and Climate Justice. Actively engaged in community outreach, GNLU collaborates with NGOs and government agencies to address pressing environmental, legal, and social challenges, reinforcing its vision of law as a catalyst for meaningful societal change.
The Centre for Environment, Sustainability and Climate Justice (GCESCJ) at GNLU is a dynamic platform dedicated to research, study, and expert consultation on environmental matters, engaging stakeholders from grassroots communities to government, industry, and administrative authorities. With passionate student members, it functions as a community of changemakers committed to safeguarding the planet’s future through legal means. The Centre has established an Eco Club for ground‑level action, hosted the 21st IUCN Academy of Environmental Law Annual Colloquium in collaboration with UNEP in 2023—the first ever in the Indian subcontinent—and launched the International Conference on Climate Justice and Sustainable Environment (ICCJSE) as its annual flagship event, now in its second edition. GCESCJ also fosters student engagement through hackathons and certificate courses, advancing sustainability and climate justice in both academic and practical spheres.
The ICCJSE, flagship initiative of GCESCJ, is a three‑day multidisciplinary forum bringing together scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and international jurists to address urgent environmental and climate challenges. Beyond formal paper presentations, it offers round‑table discussions, thematic breakout rooms, and interactive dialogues that foster deep engagement with both academic scholarship and real‑world experience. Designed as a space for honest, meaningful conversations, the conference encourages participants to share forward‑looking ideas, best practices, and innovative pathways in climate action, sustainability, and climate justice—ensuring every voice is heard and contributing to impactful change.
“Climate Justice at the Crossroads: Climate Risks, ESG, Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for a Sustainable Future” can include, but is not limited to:
Top performers of the paper presentation will have a chance to win several prizes.
In addition to these prizes, selected papers will also be published in the issue of GCESCJ’s Journal.
