About the CHLP, National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi:

The Centre for Health Law and Policy at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), established on 8 August 2014, is an interdisciplinary hub dedicated to advancing scholarship in healthcare law through teaching, research, consultancy, and advocacy. Inaugurated by Kerala’s Education Minister, the Centre fosters collaboration across institutions and disciplines, engages with professional bodies, and organizes training programmes, seminars, workshops, and lectures. It has hosted significant events such as the National Workshop on the Right to Emergency Medical Care and an International Seminar on Access to Medicine and Novel Medical Technologies in collaboration with allied centres. Actively promoting research and publication, the Centre has also released the book Healthcare, Technology and the Law: Interplay between Regulations and Digital Healthcare, which examines the intersection of digital healthcare and law, highlighting issues like social media’s impact on mental health and the critical role of data protection.

About the Conference:

The virtual conference aims to draw an intersection between healthcare and gender justice, including subthemes focusing on ground realities and cultural and developmental challenges. With an interdisciplinary approach, this conference brings students, policy experts, advocates and professors together to analyze these issues.

Eligibility:

The Conference invites thought-provoking, original, and individual/co-authored research papers from law students, academicians, industry experts, research scholars and legal practitioners that provide new insights on any theme or subtheme of the Conference.

Themes:

2.Intersectionality in Healthcare: Gender, Caste, Class, and Disability
3.Human Rights and the Right to Health: A Gendered Perspective
4.The Role of the Judiciary in Advancing Gender Equitable Healthcare
5.Reproductive Autonomy and Bodily Integrity: Legal and Ethical Challenges
6.Abortion Rights and Access: Comparative Perspectives
7.Transgender and Intersex Rights in Healthcare Law and Policy
8.Gender Affirming/ Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS)
9.PC-PNDT Act: Issues in enforcement and downfalls
10.Online Therapy: Pre and Post COVID-19
11.Mental Health & Underprivileged Children
12.Gender Sensitisation & Health Education
13.Genital Mutilation of Children in India: Impact on mental health
14.Sexual Harassment & Mental Healthcare
15.Pharmacogenomics & Health Law

The themes mentioned above are not exhaustive and the participants are free to frame articles on sub-themes keeping in mind the basic theme and title of the Conference.

Submission Guidelines:

Submission of the Abstract:

  • An abstract not exceeding 500 words shall be submitted in .docx or .doc format for consideration to this Google form on or before 20th November, 2025.
  • Co-authorship of up to two persons is permitted. Coauthoring among individuals of the same or different institutions is permissible.
  • The abstract shall have the following:
    • a.Title of the paper;
    • b.Theme of the Conference to which the paper relates;
    • c.A brief idea of the paper;
    • d.Conclusion including the author’s perspective;
    • e.Three keywords that are relevant to the abstract.

Submission of the Full Paper:

  1. The details for submission of the papers will be communicated to the authors whose abstracts get selected.
  2. Word limit is 3000-5000 words excluding footnotes.
  3. Format – MS Word, Font Type: Times New Roman, Font Size: 12, Line Spacing: 1.5
  4. For the title of the Paper, 14 point capitals may be used.
  5. Footnotes citation: Bluebook 21st edition
  6. Full papers shall undergo Blind peer review and plagiarism check. Plagiarized papers will be summarily rejected.
  7. Revision (if any) suggested by the reviewer of the paper shall be included.

Publication:

The selected papers presented in the Conference will be published in book with ISBN after the author/co-authors incorporates the suggestions that have been provided during the presentation sessions and submits the copyright declaration form. The selection of papers to be published shall be made after the Conference and email confirmation shall be sent to those whose papers have been selected for publication.

Important Instructions for Participants:

Participants interested in the conference are required to first submit an abstract for review. Upon evaluation, they will receive a confirmation email indicating whether their abstract has been accepted. The confirmation email will also contain all necessary details regarding registration and paper submission. Only those whose abstracts are accepted will be eligible to register for the conference by paying the prescribed fee (₹350 for a single author and ₹600 for co-authors). After successful registration, participants may proceed to submit their full-length papers within the stipulated deadline
