National Virtual Intellectual Property Rights Essay Writing Competition 2.0, 2026:

About HPNLU:

Established in 2016, HPNLU Shimla is a premier institution committed to excellence in legal education. Nestled in the Himalayas, it blends rigorous academics with practical pedagogy, fostering ethics, professionalism, and socio-legal engagement.

About CAIPR:

Founded in 2022, the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Rights (CAIPR) promotes research in emerging domains of IPR. It explores intersections between intellectual property, traditional knowledge, cultural heritage, and modern challenges like digital technologies and globalization.

Objective:

The competition aims to encourage students and researchers to engage deeply with Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), enhancing their writing skills and fostering innovative scholarship.

• Announcement of Winners: 7 June 2026

AI-Focused

• Artificial Intelligence: End of human creativity or greatest partner?
• Environmental cost of training large AI models
• Autonomous weapons and global security risks
• Should AI development be slowed?

IPR

• Deepfakes and personality rights
• One world, many laws: should IP be globally harmonised?
• Meme culture vs copyright law
• Is intellectual property a natural right or a state-created monopoly?

AI + IPR

• Data is the new oil – but who owns it?
• When machines create art, what happens to the artists?
• Training AI on copyrighted data: fair use or mass infringement?

Registration & Submission:

• Fee: ₹250 (inclusive of GST) for students, PhD & LL.M candidates

  • Word count: 2000–3000 words
  • File type: MS Word
  • Font: Times New Roman (12 body, 14 headings)
