Internship Opportunity: Contribute to the UN International Law Commission with RRU
Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) Centre for International Law invites applications for the 77th Session of the United Nations International Law Commission (ILC). This is a unique chance for law students, faculty, and researchers to engage directly with international lawmaking under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Bimal N. Patel, elected to the ILC with a historic 163 votes in the UN General Assembly.
Why This Matters?
- The UN International Law Commission (ILC) plays a vital role in shaping global legal frameworks on issues like state responsibility, immunities of officials, sea-level rise, and accountability for crimes against UN peacekeepers.
- Prof. Patel has introduced innovative topics such as legal aspects of accountability for crimes against UN peacekeepers and continues to emphasize Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – “the world is one family” as a guiding principle.
- Students and emerging scholars now have the opportunity to contribute to this historic work through research assistantships and internships.
Internship Highlights:
- Eligibility: Students, faculty, and experts with a demonstrated interest in public international law.
- Work: Research and submit inputs on topics under consideration by the ILC, based on state practice, Sixth Committee debates, and scholarly work.
- Inclusivity: Open to candidates from all UN regions, with encouragement for multilingual contributions.
- Mode: Flexible, part-time, and remote. Candidates may also work from the RRU Gandhinagar campus for deeper engagement.
- Acknowledgment: Successful candidates will receive an official acknowledgment letter from RRU Centre for International Law.
- Scholarship: Eligible interns present in Geneva during UN meetings can apply for the Prof. Dr. Bimal N. Patel Scholarship Fund (minimum sustenance grant up to USD 1000, opening April 2025).
