Through workshops, conferences, and publications, the Centre fosters critical thinking and contributes to the development of legal and policy frameworks in India.

About the Competition:

The National Annual Essay Writing Competition is organised in memory of Late Mayank Raj, an LL.M. (Corporate Law) student of the 2026 batch, to honour his academic legacy and passion for interdisciplinary legal research.

This initiative provides a platform for law students to critically engage with contemporary challenges in the online gaming industry, a sector witnessing rapid growth and complex regulatory developments.

Theme:

Online Gaming Laws Participants are invited to explore the evolving legal landscape of online gaming in India. Suggested areas of inquiry include:

  • Constitutional and regulatory frameworks governing online gaming
  • Taxation and GST implications on gaming platforms
  • Blockchain, NFTs, and virtual digital assets in gaming
  • Consumer protection and responsible gaming practices
  • Data privacy, platform governance, and compliance issues
  • Corporate governance and investment trends in the gaming industry

(Note: These are illustrative themes; participants may choose related topics.)

Eligibility:

  • Open to students enrolled in 3‑year LL.B., 5‑year integrated LL.B., or LL.M. programmes at recognised institutions in India.
  • Co‑authorship permitted (maximum two authors).

Submission Guidelines:

  • Word Limit: 1500–2000 words
  • Format: Times New Roman, Size 12, Line Spacing 1.5, Justified alignment
  • Referencing: Hyperlinking mandatory; endnotes may be used where necessary
  • File Format: Submit in both .doc/.docx and PDF
  • Anonymity: Author details must not appear in the manuscript

Important Dates:

  • Submission Deadline: 30 May 2026
  • Result Declaration: 30 June 2026

Review Process:

Essays will undergo blind peer review by the Editorial Board. Evaluation will be based on originality, depth of research, clarity of argument, structure, and policy relevance. Decisions of the panel will be final.

Prizes:

  • First Prize: ₹10,000 + Internship opportunity with Luthra and Luthra Law Offices India*
  • Second Prize: ₹7,500
  • Third Prize: ₹5,000
  • Top 10 essays will be published on the CARCIL website.
