National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) Internship Programme – 2026:

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), a constitutional body under Article 338A of the Constitution of India, has announced its Internship Programme for 2026. This initiative is designed to provide structured academic engagement for students and research scholars, offering exposure to constitutional mandates, statutory safeguards, and policy mechanisms concerning Scheduled Tribes. The programme also aims to foster research capacity, policy analysis, and field‑based assessment, with preference accorded to deserving candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes.


Objectives of the Internship:

  • Exposure to Constitutional and Statutory Safeguards – Understanding legal protections and policy frameworks for Scheduled Tribes.
  • Research Support to the Commission – Assisting in analytical work and identifying implementation gaps in welfare measures.
  • Policy Analysis & Field Assessment – Evaluating welfare schemes and participating in supervised field visits.
  • Capacity Building – Enhancing research and policy analysis skills among students, with emphasis on ST candidates.

Scope of Research:

Interns may engage in:

  • Policy evaluation of tribal welfare schemes.
  • Study of constitutional and statutory safeguards.
  • Research on tribal land, forest rights, and displacement issues.
  • Analysis of education, health, and livelihood initiatives.
  • Any additional area assigned by the Commission.

Structure of the Programme:

  • Batch Size: Up to 10 interns per cycle.
  • Duration: One month (extendable with approval).
  • Posting: Headquarters (New Delhi) or Regional Offices.
  • Mentorship: Each intern will be supervised by a designated Mentor.
  • Orientation: Training on NCST’s mandate, legal safeguards, and research methodology.
  • Field Visits: Possible visits to tribal areas, schools, or research institutes.
  • Final Report: Mandatory submission and presentation of research findings.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Students from 2nd year onwards or graduates in Science, Social Science, Commerce, Arts, Humanities, or equivalent disciplines.
  • Postgraduates and research scholars are also eligible.
  • Minimum marks: 60% in the last qualifying examination (relaxation possible).
  • Age limit: 18–30 years (relaxation for SC/ST/OBC as per norms).
  • Applications rejected if incomplete, false, AI‑generated, or plagiarized.

Application Procedure:

  • Apply only through the NCSTGRAMS portal:
  • Application window: 3 June 2026 (10 AM) – 18 June 2026 (5 PM).
  • Mandatory uploads: Statement of Purpose, No Objection Certificate (if applicable).
  • Statement of Purpose Topic: “Why do you wish to join the Internship Programme of NCST, and what knowledge, skills, experiences, or perspectives do you bring that would contribute meaningfully to the work of the Commission?”
  • AI‑generated or copied content will lead to immediate rejection.

Stipend & Benefits:

  • Monthly stipend: ₹15,000.
  • Fieldwork allowance: TA/DA admissible for approved visits.
  • Workspace and facilities provided; interns must use their own laptops.
  • Stipend disbursed only upon fulfilling attendance, submission, and evaluation requirements.

Completion & Certification:

  • Interns must submit a final project report and present findings before NCST officials.
  • Certificate issued only upon satisfactory completion, adherence to attendance norms (90%), and acceptance of the final report.
  • Internship does not confer any claim to employment in NCST.
