International Conference I Legal Dimensions of Agricultural Subsidies in the WTO System I University of Mysore I NUALS Kochi I UCLouvain (IEE St Louis) Belgium I Register by 15th Dec 2025
About the Conference:
Agricultural subsidies remain one of the most debated issues in international trade law. They influence food security, rural development, and market competitiveness, while also generating disputes among WTO Members due to their impact on trade distortions and domestic policy autonomy.
This two‑day international conference provides a platform for scholars, policymakers, trade experts, and agricultural scientists to examine the legal, institutional, and policy challenges surrounding subsidies under the WTO Agreement on Agriculture (AoA) and related agreements.
Key Focus Areas:
- Subsidy Classifications: Amber Box, Blue Box, and Green Box categories, and their trade‑distorting implications.
- Developed vs. Developing Countries: Asymmetries in support measures, food security concerns, and MSP schemes.
- Dispute Settlement Jurisprudence: Insights from landmark cases such as U.S.–Brazil Cotton, Canada–Dairy, and India’s public stockholding programs.
- Emerging Concerns: Climate change, sustainable farming, digital agriculture, and eco‑friendly production support.
- Reform Needs: Transparency, data reporting, institutional accountability, and strengthening WTO committees amidst the dispute settlement crisis.
The conference seeks to promote equitable, transparent, and resilient subsidy frameworks that balance domestic developmental imperatives with global trade fairness.
