About the Centre for Family Law (CFL)

The Centre for Family Law was established in 2023 at NLUJ under the guidance of Ms. Preeti Badola (Executive Director). CFL aims to foster informed discussions on family law beyond traditional norms, engaging with issues of gender equality, civil rights, and progressive perspectives. Its flagship initiative, The Family Law Chronicle Blog, provides a platform for critical dialogue on emerging issues in family law.

About the Competition

The first edition of the CFL–NLUJ Inter-College Essay Writing Competition invites submissions on “Reproductive Rights & Bodily Autonomy.” The competition seeks to critically examine how family law intersects with reproductive choice, bodily integrity, and evolving family structures. Participants are encouraged to explore interdisciplinary perspectives on inequality, exclusion, and control within legal frameworks.

• Abortion: Reproductive Choice and State Control
• Female Genital Mutilation: Bodily Integrity
• Surrogacy and Assisted Reproductive Technology Act, 2021
• Maternal Health and Post-Partum Care
• Child Marriage and Reproductive Autonomy

These sub-themes are illustrative, not exhaustive, allowing participants to engage with diverse perspectives.

• Last Date of Submission: September 10, 2026
• Review Stages: September – October 2026
• Results Declaration: Mid-October 2026

Registration Details

• Single Author: ₹300
• Co-authored (max 2 authors): ₹600 Payment must be completed via the designated link, with proof uploaded during registration.

Submission Guidelines

• Word Limit: 2,500–3,000 words
• Format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)
• Anonymity: No disclosure of author identity in manuscript
• Originality: Unpublished work; plagiarism threshold ≤15%
• Referencing: OSCOLA citation style; hyperlinks preferred
• Formatting: Garamond, size 12 (main text), size 10 (footnotes), justified alignment, 1.5 line spacing

Review Process

• Stage I: Technical Screening (formatting, plagiarism, AI-use check)
• Stage II: Editorial Review by CFL Blog Board
• Stage III: Faculty Review & Final Adjudication by experts in family law, constitutional law, and gender studies
