What is CILAD?

The Centre for International Law and Allied Disciplines (CILAD) is an academic platform in the aim of fostering interdisciplinary engagement in international law and allied fields. It is situated at the Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

What is CILAD Monthly?

CILAD Monthly is a collaborative, student-led newsletter bringing together law and social sciences voices, encouraging critical thought and creativity through concise and contemporary research.

Purpose:

CILAD Monthly is a collaborative platform created by students, for students. Each month, it brings together law and social sciences voices from across universities, encouraging critical thought, creativity, and interdisciplinary engagement with international law and allied fields.

Open:

Anyone from the Law or Social Sciences may contribute.

Interdisciplinary:

Embracing diverse perspectives beyond just legal doctrine.

Forward-looking:

Challenging conventional narratives through fresh voices.

Who can Contribute?

  • Undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral students from law and social sciences disciplines. The call is open internationally and not limited to any single university.
  • Both individual and co-authored contributions (up to 2 authors) are welcome.

Recognition and Engagement:

Contributors will be recognized by name and bio in the newsletter as well as a “Feature of the Month” will be
highlighted on CILAD’s various platforms. We encourage active engagement with the newsletter, and Contributors may be invited for online discussions, webinars, or panel talks based on their pieces.

Types of Contributors:

Feature Articles: Analytical pieces on contemporary international law/policy. (1000-1500 words)
Opinion Pieces: Thoughtful arguments or reflections on current issues. (600-900 words)
Case/Legislation Notes: Notes on key judgments, treaties, or bills. (600-800 words)
Interdisciplinary Essays: Linking law to politics, sociology, economics, literature, etc. (Flexible Word Range)
Book/Film Reviews: Relevant to law, rights, or social sciences. (400-700 words)
Creative Writing: Poems, short stories, and other creative pieces inspired by international law.

Style Guidelines:

  • Use Clear and Concise language.
  • Use Analytical, Accessible, and Respectful Tone.
  • Support arguments with evidence and citations.
  • Referencing style must be consistent throughout.
  • Keep Contributions within the specified word limit depending on the type of contribution.
  • Title, Author Name(s), Institution, and Word Count should be mentioned in the email/form and not on the manuscript.
  • Violation of this, may lead us to reject the submission.

Formatting:

  • Font: Times New Roman at size 12.
  • Citation Style: OSCOLA/Bluebook/APA
  • Must be Consistent.
  • Spacing:1.5 paragraph spacing.

Submission Rules:

  • Must be original, not published or under review elsewhere.
  • 10% Plagiarism Limit.
  • Submit contributions via Google Form/Email.
  • Clearly indicate the type of contribution (e.g., article, essay, etc.) in the subject line.
  • Attach a 50-word author bio and contact email.
  • Authors retain copyright but grant CILAD Monthly, the permission to publish.

Structure of each Issue:

  • EDITORIAL NOTE (from the team)
  • Feature Articles, Op Pieces, Notes & Reviews, & Creative Corner.
  • Contributor Spotlight (Featuring a student Writer/Interview.)

Code of Conduct:

All contributors are expected to maintain a respectful and professional tone. Discrimination, harassment, and plagiarism will not be tolerated. The editors reserve the right to decline submissions that don’t meet standards.

Submit your piece through the QR code mentioned in the attached link given below at the end of the post or send it to cilad@dsnlu.ac.in.
