The UILS Student Law Review is an initiative of the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, Chandigarh. Managed by a dedicated student editorial board under faculty guidance, the Review reflects UILS’s commitment to nurturing legal scholarship and providing a platform for young researchers to engage with contemporary issues in law. By organizing calls for papers and publishing peer-reviewed contributions, the Review strengthens the academic culture of UILS and enhances its outreach in the wider legal community.
Established in 2004–05 as a constituent department of Panjab University, UILS has rapidly emerged as a premier legal institute with a unique blend of tradition and modernity. Its mission is to equip students with the skills to comprehend and diagnose complex legal and interdisciplinary issues, and to devise solutions through analysis and reasoning.
The Institute fosters a stimulating academic environment that hones Drafting, Research, Advocacy, Interviewing, and Negotiation skills. A rich calendar of curricular and extra-curricular activities includes Moot Court Competitions, Client Counselling Sessions, Quiz Contests, Seminars, Group Discussions, and Extension Lectures.
UILS emphasizes experiential learning by mandating internships with Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court, Punjab & Haryana High Court, eminent lawyers, law firms, commissions, and NGOs. Its Legal Aid Clinic provides free legal services to economically weaker sections, while simultaneously offering students opportunities to work alongside practicing advocates. These initiatives highlight the social responsibility of legal professionals and the Institute’s commitment to community engagement.
