The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, holds a distinguished position in the landscape of Indian legal education. Established in 1997 through the Rashtriya Vidhi Sansthan Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam by the Madhya Pradesh State Legislature, it proudly stands as the second National Law University in the country. Since its inception, NLIU has rapidly ascended to become one of India’s most reputed and consistently top-ranked law institutions. Its enduring prestige is a testament to its commitment to fostering academic brilliance and producing highly capable legal professionals who contribute significantly to the judiciary, corporate world, and legal practice across the nation. Recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI), NLIU is committed to shaping legal minds through an interdisciplinary and innovative approach. With a focus on preparing students for the dynamic landscape of modern law, NLIU’s curriculum and research initiatives reflect the intersection of traditional legal principles with contemporary challenges.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has established an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Chair at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal. This initiative is a part of the Scheme for Pedagogy & Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia (SPRIHA), which aligns with the National IPR Policy (2016). The Chair’s primary objective is to foster a vibrant intellectual property ecosystem within the academic and legal communities. It serves as a dedicated platform for promoting excellence in IPR education, research, and outreach. By conducting cutting-edge studies and organizing various events like seminars and workshops, the NLIU-DPIIT IPR Chair aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. It plays a crucial role in building human capital and creating a conducive environment for innovation, while raising public awareness about the benefits of IP rights. The Chair is currently helmed by Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Hussain, DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor at NLIU, Bhopal.
The Journal of Intellectual Property Law is an annual, peer-reviewed journal published by the DPIIT IPR Chair at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal. The Journal aims to provide a robust platform for scholarly discourse on intellectual property law and its intersection with policy, technology, and society. The Journal seeks to bring together diverse perspectives from academicians, legal practitioners, policymakers, industry professionals, researchers, and students. It is committed to publishing high-quality, analytical, and original contributions that address contemporary challenges and developments in intellectual property law. The Journal of Intellectual Property Law invites original, unpublished manuscripts for its upcoming volume. The Journal welcomes submissions on any contemporary and relevant theme relating to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Authors are encouraged to explore doctrinal, comparative, empirical, and interdisciplinary dimensions of intellectual property law.

• IPR Policy Reforms in India and Abroad
Authors may also submit on any other contemporary topic of relevance to intellectual property law.
Academicians and faculty members, research scholars and doctoral candidates, legal practitioners and advocates, undergraduate and postgraduate students, policymakers and government officials, industry and IP professionals, members of the judiciary, and technology and innovation professionals.
• Word Limit: 5,000–8,000 words, inclusive of footnotes and abstract
• Co-authorship: Permitted, up to a maximum of two authors, from the same or different institutions
• Nature of Manuscript: Must be analytical, arriving at a definite conclusion on the subject-matter
• Originality: Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere; plagiarism in any form results in immediate rejection (plagiarism below 10% is permitted)
• Abstract: Maximum 300 words (inclusive of the overall word limit), stating the research question, methodology, key arguments and conclusions, along with 5–7 keywords
• Citations: OSCOLA 4th Edition, footnotes only — substantive footnoting is not permitted
• Title: Times New Roman, size 15, bold, 2.0 line spacing, centre-aligned
• Abstract: Times New Roman, size 12, italicized, 1.5 line spacing, justified, 2.0 margins
• Main Body: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 line spacing, justified
• Headings: Times New Roman, size 14, 1.5 line spacing, centre-aligned
• Sub-headings: Times New Roman, size 13, italicized, 1.5 line spacing, centre-aligned
• Footnotes: Times New Roman, size 10, 1.0 line spacing, justified
• Margins: One inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
All manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review by subject experts. The decision of the Editorial Board and reviewers is final and binding.
• Last Date for Submission of Abstracts: 5th September 2026
• Communication of Abstract Selection/Rejection: Within 15 days of abstract submission
• Last Date for Submission of Full Papers: 1st October 2026
• Tentative Date of Publication: January 2027
The Journal does not charge any submission or publication fees, unless otherwise specified.
Authors must submit an abstract (maximum 300 words) along with 5–7 keywords through the link below. Selected authors will be invited to submit full manuscripts in accordance with the submission guidelines.
