Call for Blog Submissions | SILP NUJS Special Edition on 80 Years of the International Court of Justice

About the Special Edition

The Society of International Law and Policy (SILP) at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata, invites original and engaging blog submissions for a Special Edition of the SILP Blog commemorating the 80th anniversary of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The ICJ, established in 1946 as the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, has for eight decades played a pivotal role in the peaceful settlement of disputes between States and the development of international law. As the Court reflects on its evolving role in 2026, this Special Edition seeks to critically examine its jurisprudence, institutional significance, and future trajectory amidst contemporary challenges to the international legal order.

Theme

“Commemorating 80 Years of the International Court of Justice: The Court’s Role in Contemporary International Law Amidst a Changing World Order and Its Future”

Contributors are encouraged to explore diverse perspectives, including but not limited to:

• The ICJ’s contribution to the development and clarification of international law
• Engagement with emerging areas of international law
• Jurisdictional questions and compliance challenges
• Legitimacy and effectiveness of international adjudication
• The Court’s role in addressing global challenges in a rapidly changing world

Interdisciplinary and innovative approaches are welcome.

Categories of Submissions

1. Long Articles & Discussions: 2000–2500 words
2. Short Articles: 1000–1500 words

Submission Guidelines

• Submissions must be original, unpublished, and substantively engaged with the theme.
• References should be provided through hyperlinks within the text.
• Contributions must comply with the SILP Blog Submission Guidelines.
• Submissions must be made strictly through the designated submission form.

Eligibility

The Call is open to students, researchers, academicians, practitioners, and individuals interested in contemporary international law and the work of the ICJ.

This Special Edition provides an opportunity to critically reflect on eight decades of international adjudication and to examine how the ICJ may continue to shape the international legal order in the years ahead.
