BCI Action After “Surprise Inspections Conducted by a High-Level Inspection Team”: 9 Law Colleges Barred from Admissions for 2026-27
In a major move to uphold the standards of legal education in the country, The Bar Council of India issued a general public notice in regards to prohibited 9 Centres of Legal Education from taking admissions in law courses for the Academic Session 2026-27 and onwards until further orders.
The action follows “Surprise Inspections conducted by a High-Level Inspection Team” comprising former High Court Judges and eminent legal academicians. During the inspections, serious deficiencies and shortcomings were reportedly found in the functioning and infrastructure of the concerned institutions.
According to the general public notice issued by the BCI, the decision has been taken in the interest of maintaining quality legal education and protecting students from institutions failing to meet prescribed standards. The Council further clarified that the list may be revised or updated depending upon future inspections and compliance reports.
The development is being considered a significant regulatory step towards strengthening transparency, accountability and academic standards in legal education across India.
List of Prohibited Centres of Legal Education:
NOTE: The institutions included in this list shall not admit students in any law degree course for the Academic Session 2026-2027 and subsequent academic sessions until further notice from the Bar Council of India. This list shall remain subject to revision, updation, inclusion, or deletion from time to time on the basis of further inspection reports, materials received and decisions taken by the competent body/bodies of the Bar Council of India.
