GLS University Faculty of Law – Patent Drafting Competition 2026:

The Intellectual Property Law Clinic, Faculty of Law, GLS University, Ahmedabad, announces the Patent Drafting Competition 2026, an interdisciplinary initiative designed to strengthen innovation‑oriented legal education.


About GLS University:

Founded under the legacy of the Gujarat Law Society (est. 1927), GLS University is accredited with NAAC A+ (CGPA 3.44). It is recognized for its multidisciplinary learning, industry engagement, and experiential pedagogy, aligned with the vision of NEP 2020.


Faculty of Law & IP Law Clinic:

  • The Faculty of Law emphasizes conceptual clarity, professional competence, and experiential learning through moot courts, drafting exercises, and competitions.
  • The IP Law Clinic, inaugurated on World IP Day, 26 April 2021, engages with patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographical indications, industrial designs, and trade secrets.
  • It bridges legal education and innovation practice, fostering awareness and skill development in intellectual property law.

Objectives of the Competition:

The competition is designed to:

  • Encourage interdisciplinary engagement between law and non‑law students.
  • Develop practical understanding of patentability requirements under Indian law.
  • Strengthen skills in claim drafting, specification drafting, and invention articulation.
  • Promote innovation‑oriented legal education through experiential learning.

Eligibility & Team Composition:

  • Open to students, research scholars, academicians, and professionals across disciplines (Law, Engineering, Sciences, Design, Management, etc.).
  • Teams of 3 members, interdisciplinary combinations encouraged.
  • Registration fee: ₹900 per team.

Key Dates:

  • Registration Deadline: 7 June 2026
  • Workshop Registration: 11–30 June 2026
  • Patent Drafting Workshop: 11 July 2026
  • Round I Submission Deadline: 18 July 2026
  • Round I Results: 22 July 2026
  • Final Competition (Round II): 1 August 2026

Competition Format:

  • Round I (Virtual): Submission of patent drafts via email.
  • Round II (On‑Campus): Presentation & viva voce before expert panel at GLS University, Ahmedabad.
  • Workshop: Practical training by patent attorneys and industry experts on drafting specifications, claims, and filing strategies.

  • Winner: ₹21,000
  • 1st Runner‑Up: ₹15,000
  • 2nd Runner‑Up: ₹11,000
  • Certificates for participation, merit, and winners.
