About the Position:

The National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) invites expressions of interest for the contractual position of a full‑time IPR Chair Professor under the DPIIT IPR Chair, established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

This position is part of the Scheme for Pedagogy and Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia (SPRIHA). The Chair Professor will play a pivotal role in strengthening Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) education, research, and outreach at NLU Delhi.


Role and Responsibilities:

The IPR Chair Professor will:

  • Promote teaching, research, and capacity‑building in Intellectual Property.
  • Develop and strengthen IP curricula across academic programmes.
  • Facilitate collaborations with academic institutions, industry, and stakeholders.
  • Support policy‑oriented research and provide inputs on IP‑related issues.
  • Undertake outreach and awareness activities.
  • Mentor students and researchers.
  • Publish regularly on relevant platforms and engage with global best practices.

Position Details:

  • Number of Positions: 01
  • Eligibility:
    • Must have served as, or be eligible to serve as, a Professor/Associate Professor under UGC norms with sufficient IPR teaching/research experience, OR
    • An IP Attorney with at least 10 years of practice, OR
    • A professional with 10+ years of recognition in IPR, OR
    • A retired official of the IP Office (CGPDTM) with a doctorate and minimum 5 years’ experience at Level 12 or above (e.g., Controller of Patents & Designs, Registrar of Trademarks, Registrar of Copyrights).
    • Age Limit: Individuals above 70 years are not eligible.
  • Remuneration: ₹1,50,000/- per month (consolidated).
    • Subject to TDS @ 10% under Section 194J of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
  • Tenure: Initial period of 1 year, extendable based on performance and availability of funds.
  • Nature of Appointment: Purely contractual; no regularization or additional benefits.

Selection Process:

  • Applications will be scrutinized and shortlisted based on eligibility and merit.
  • Shortlisting does not guarantee interview or selection.
  • A 3‑member Committee constituted by the Vice‑Chancellor will review applications and submit recommendations to DPIIT.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.

Important Guidelines:

  1. Candidates must ensure eligibility as on the last date of application.
  2. False or incorrect information will lead to cancellation and possible legal action.
  3. Mere possession of qualifications does not guarantee interview.
  4. Incomplete or late applications will be rejected.
  5. Candidates in employment must apply through proper channel.
  6. The University reserves the right to accept/reject applications, withdraw advertisement, or modify the process.
  7. Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification.
  8. Appointment is temporary, subject to verification of antecedents, and may be terminated for misconduct or unsatisfactory performance.
  9. No TA/DA will be paid for attending interviews.
  10. NLU Delhi rules and regulations will apply.
