Online Short-Term Internship Programme – May 2026 (18th to 29th May, 2026):

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), under Section 12(h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, continues its mandate of spreading awareness on the protection and promotion of human rights. Since 1998, the Commission has been conducting internship programmes to engage university students in this vital area of study and practice.

Programme Details:

For May 2026, the NHRC announces its Online Short Term Internship Programme (OSTI) scheduled from 18th to 29th May, 2026. This two‑week initiative is designed to sensitize students on human rights issues through lectures, interactive sessions, and experiential learning.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applications are invited from:

  • Students in the 3rd year and onwards of integrated 5‑year PG courses.
  • Students in the 3rd/final year of graduation courses.
  • Students of any semester/year of post‑graduate degree courses (including 3‑year LL.B).
  • Students of post‑graduate diploma courses.
  • Research scholars in any stream.

Applicants must have secured minimum 60% marks in Class XII and in the first four semesters of graduation/five‑year integrated courses. Percentage must be clearly calculated from CGPA/SGPA and formula disclosed.

Application Requirements:

  • A 250‑word Statement of Purpose (SoP) on “Why I wish to join NHRC Online Short Term Internship.”
  • Attested photocopies of mark‑sheets (Class X, XII, and first four semesters).
  • A Letter of Recommendation (LOR) from the Principal/HOD/Dean in prescribed format (Annex‑I).
  • Details of co‑curricular activities, moot courts, internships, and research projects may be included to strengthen applications.

Note: Students who have previously attended NHRC internships are not eligible. Age limit: 28 years as on 1st April, 2026.

Course Structure:

Interns will participate in 40–45 sessions covering diverse human rights issues. Key components include:

  • Interaction with NHRC Chairperson, Members, senior officials, and domain experts.
  • Group project work on human rights themes.
  • Book review activity.
  • Screening of films on child labour, bonded labour, trafficking, health, mental health, and education.
  • Virtual field visits to jails, police stations, NGOs, and shelter homes.

Stipend and Certification:

  • Successful interns will receive a stipend of ₹2000.
  • Certificates will be awarded based on punctuality, discipline, participation, and timely submission of assignments.
  • Attendance in all sessions is mandatory; leave applications will not be entertained.

  • Deadline: 7th May, 2026 (18:00 hrs).
  • Applications must be submitted online via NHRC website or NHRC India Mobile App.
  • Incomplete applications or those submitted via email/post will be rejected.
  • Final list of selected interns will be displayed on NHRC website.
