National Symposium | Labour Law, Gender Equity and Economic Governance | Soundarya College of Law | Bengaluru | Hybrid Mode | Submit by 8th May 2026

Call for Papers – Soundarya College of Law, Bengaluru:

Soundarya College of Law (SCL), established in 2017 under the Soundarya Educational Trust (R), continues its tradition of fostering rigorous academic engagement through national‑level conferences and symposia. Affiliated to Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi, the institution offers LL.B. and integrated law programmes, combining doctrinal learning with interdisciplinary inquiry and practical exposure.

SCL is pleased to announce a Two‑Day National Symposium on “The Future of Work in India: Labour Law, Gender Equity and Economic Governance” scheduled for 22nd and 23rd May 2026.

About the Symposium:

The symposium is envisaged as a national academic and policy‑oriented platform to critically examine the transformative restructuring of India’s labour law regime through the Four Labour Codes:

  • Code on Wages, 2019
  • Industrial Relations Code, 2020
  • Code on Social Security, 2020
  • Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020

These reforms consolidate multiple legislations with the objectives of simplifying compliance, strengthening social security, improving industrial relations, and responding to the changing nature of work in a liberalised, technology‑driven economy.

The symposium will also situate labour law reforms within the broader discourse of gender equity and economic governance, examining:

  • Women’s participation in the labour force and barriers to inclusion
  • Workplace equality, maternity benefits, and care work
  • Sexual harassment and institutional mechanisms
  • Labour regulation and economic growth in the context of liberalisation and globalisation
  • Informal economy, gig and platform workers, and technological change

This dialogue aligns with the national vision of Viksit Bharat and resonates with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

Key Themes:

  1. Labour Law and Industrial Relations – Collective bargaining, dispute resolution, occupational safety, gig and platform work.
  2. Gender Justice and Labour Regulation – Workplace equality, social security, intersectionality in labour law.
  3. Labour Law, Justice, and the Economy – Balancing welfare and ease of business, informal economy, automation, and governance.
