About NHRC:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is mandated under Section 12(h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 to generate awareness for the protection and promotion of human rights. In line with this mandate, the Commission has been conducting Winter Internship Programmes (since 1998) and Summer Internship Programmes (since 2000) to engage students in human rights education and advocacy.

About NHRC Summer Internship Programme 2026:

For the year 2026, the Summer Internship Programme (SIP) will run from 1st June (Monday) to 25th June 2026 (Thursday) in Delhi. Applications are invited from eligible students across the country to participate in this four-week intensive programme.

Programme Overview:

  • Duration: 4 weeks (offline, in-person at NHRC, Delhi)
  • Seats: ~80 interns selected per batch
  • Stipend: ₹12,000 upon successful completion
  • Travel Allowance: 3rd AC fare (to & fro) from place of study to Delhi

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Law Students:
    • Completed 1st year and pursuing 2nd/3rd year of 3-year LL.B.
    • Completed 3 years/6th semester of 5-year Integrated Law course and pursuing 4th/5th year.
    • Pursuing LL.M. programmes.
  • General Requirements:
    • Regular courses from UGC-recognized universities only.
    • Minimum 65% marks in Class XII and subsequent semesters.
    • Age limit: 28 years.

Application Process:

  • Apply online with a 300–500 word Statement of Purpose (SOP) titled “Reason for joining as Intern in NHRC”.
  • Selection based on merit:
    • Class XII marks: 30%
    • Graduation marks: 40%
    • SOP evaluation: 30%
  • Students with prior NHRC internship experience are not eligible.

Academic Integrity & Guidelines:

  • Papers and reports must be original; plagiarism above 9% will lead to rejection.
  • AI-assisted content must comply with academic integrity standards.
  • Final decisions rest with the NHRC Internship Committee.

Accommodation:

  • No TA/DA beyond travel allowance.
  • Limited accommodation may be facilitated for outstation participants upon prior request, with expenses borne by the participant.
