4th N.J.Y. National Moot Court Competition – 2026:

The Faculty of Law, ICFAI University Tripura proudly announces the 4th N.J.Y. National Moot Court Competition, to be held from 17th – 19th June 2026 at the University’s campus in Agartala, Tripura. This prestigious competition is organized in reverent memory of Dr. N.J. Yasaswy, visionary educationist and founder of the ICFAI Group, whose ideals of intellectual rigor, ethical leadership, and service to justice continue to inspire generations.


About ICFAI University Tripura:

Established in 2004, ICFAI University Tripura is a multidisciplinary institution offering 50+ programs across law, management, commerce, engineering, health sciences, liberal arts, and more. Guided by the motto Meritum Ethicus, the Faculty of Law emphasizes high academic standards, legal research, and professional training through integrated law programs (BA LL.B., BBA LL.B., LL.B., LL.M., Ph.D.).


About the Competition:

The N.J.Y. National Moot Court Competition is designed to provide law students with a platform to sharpen their advocacy, research, and analytical skills. Mooting replicates real court proceedings, helping students understand courtroom decorum, legal reasoning, and professional ethics.

After three successful editions, the 4th N.J.Y. NMCC 2026 aims to challenge participants with complex legal issues, fostering confidence and competence among budding lawyers, judges, and arbitrators.


Key Dates:

  • Commencement of Registration: 26 February 2026
  • Last Date of Registration: 26 May 2026
  • Clarifications Deadline: 27 May 2026
  • Memorial Submission (Soft Copy): 12 June 2026
  • Arrival of Participants: 16 June 2026
  • Competition Dates: 17–19 June 2026

Competition Format:

  • Preliminary Rounds: 20 minutes per team (including rebuttals).
  • Quarter Finals: Top 8 teams, 25 minutes per team.
  • Semi Finals: Top 4 teams, 45 minutes per team.
  • Final Round: Top 2 teams, 60 minutes per team.

Strict adherence to courtroom etiquette is mandatory.


Memorial Guidelines:

  • Petitioner memorials: Blue cover; Respondent memorials: Red cover.
  • Submission in PDF & DOC format by 12 June 2026.
  • Content must include: Cover Page, Table of Contents, Jurisdiction, Facts, Issues, Arguments, Pleadings (max 20 pages), and Prayer.
  • Formatting: Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 spacing; Footnotes in 10 pt, single spacing; Bluebook 20th Edition citation style.
  • Plagiarism above 10% will lead to disqualification.

Awards & Prizes:

  • Winners: ₹50,000 + Trophy
  • Runners-Up: ₹30,000 + Trophy
  • Best Speaker (Petitioner): ₹5,000 + Trophy
  • Best Speaker (Respondent): ₹5,000 + Trophy
  • Best Memorial: ₹5,000 + Trophy
  • Best Researcher: ₹5,000 + Trophy

Certificates of Participation will be awarded to all participants.


Registration Details:

  • Fee: ₹5999 per team (including food & lodging, non-refundable).
  • Teams will receive a Team Code upon confirmation.

Moot Proposition:

The case for NMCC 2026 is State of Indica vs. Rhea Sharma, involving issues of freedom of press, constitutional safeguards, criminal conspiracy, and national integrity. The proposition challenges participants to argue on complex intersections of journalism, governance, and public order.
