Conference Theme:

Intersections of Traditional Knowledge Systems and the Future: Law, Culture, Sustainability, and Collective Well-Being

Traditional Knowledge Systems (TKS) encompass indigenous practices in medicine, agriculture, biodiversity, climate adaptation, craftsmanship, and governance. Despite their enduring relevance, they face challenges of marginalisation, commodification, and inadequate legal protection.

This conference explores TKS through a socio-legal lens, engaging with global and national frameworks such as:

  • Convention on Biological Diversity
  • Nagoya Protocol
  • TRIPS Agreement
  • UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
  • India’s Biological Diversity Act & Geographical Indications regime
  • Traditional Knowledge Digital Library
  • National Education Policy 2020

  1. Historical Perspectives of TKS – Oral traditions, folklore, colonial marginalisation, decolonisation movements

  4. Healing Systems Across the Globe – Ayurveda, Yoga, ethnomedicine, regulation, consumer protection, right to health

  6. Legal Frameworks of TKS – Biodiversity governance, ABS, prior informed consent, forest dwellers’ rights, corporate accountability
