IGNITAC’26 – Ignatius Trial & Advocacy Competition

St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata through Xavier Law School (XLS) and the Xavier Society of Law and Justice (XSLAJ) proudly presents the Ignatius Trial & Advocacy Competition 2026 (IGNITAC’26), scheduled for 4th–6th November 2026.
About the Institutions
- St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK): Established in 2017, SXUK carries forward the 500‑year Jesuit legacy of education. With modern infrastructure, diverse undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and a vision aligned with NEP 2020, SXUK fosters holistic student development.
- Xavier Law School (XLS): Founded in 2019 by Hon’ble Lokpal of India, Mr. Pinaki Chandra Ghosh, XLS offers BA LL.B. (Hons.), B.Com LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. in Business & Criminal Law, and Ph.D. programmes. Equipped with a Moot Court Hall, Law Library, Legal Aid Clinic, and vibrant student societies, XLS aims to set international standards in legal education.
- Xavier Society of Law and Justice (XSLAJ): Established to strengthen XLS, XSLAJ is the heart of student engagement, conceptualizing events that bridge law and justice. It has collaborated with eminent judges, advocates, and academicians across India and abroad, creating a platform for experiential learning.
Patronage & Leadership
- Patron: The competition commemorates the “Cannonball Moment” of St. Ignatius of Loyola, symbolizing transformation from profession to purpose.
- Chairperson: Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, SJ – Vice Chancellor of SXUK, renowned educationist and philanthropist.
- Dean: Dr. Ranjeeta Mukherjee – Associate Professor of Law, with extensive academic and research contributions.
- Convenors: Dr. Siddhant Chandra (Convenor) and Dr. Subhajit Chakraborty (Co‑Convenor), supported by Student Convenor Mr. Debdeep Giri and Joint Student Convenor Mr. Swayam Bhattacharya.
Vision of IGNITAC’26
IGNITAC’26 emphasizes the importance of trial and advocacy as the foundation of legal practice. It aims to:
- Provide law students with courtroom exposure.
- Develop skills of pursuance, preparedness, and prudence.
- Encourage collaborative and competitive learning across universities.
- Build better professionals equipped with practical skill sets and deeper understanding of justice delivery.
