About the Competition:

The 1st NLIU–Anand & Anand Trademark Opposition Competition is a unique, practice-oriented event designed to simulate real-world trademark opposition proceedings.

  • Participants will gain hands-on experience in drafting pleadings before the Trade Marks Registry.
  • The competition focuses on issues such as registrability, likelihood of confusion, dilution, and procedural compliance.
  • Teams will prepare both a Notice of Opposition and a Counter-Statement, followed by oral rounds before experts from Anand & Anand, one of India’s leading IP law firms.

This initiative aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice, offering law students a rare opportunity to engage with the nuances of trademark litigation.

Eligibility & Participation:

  • Open to all law colleges, universities, and institutions recognized by the Bar Council of India.
  • Participants must be enrolled in either a 3-year or 5-year LL.B. program.
  • Multiple teams from the same institution are permitted.
  • Deadline for online registration: 15th December 2025, 11:59 PM.

Registration Process:

Phase I:

  • Teams must submit the Phase I Registration Form (released by CSIPR) by 10th December 2025.
  • Shortlisted teams will be notified via email within 24 hours.
  • Fee: ₹1,000/- (inclusive of GST) – covers eligibility for the Written Submission round.

Phase II:

  • The top 20 teams, based on Written Submission scores, will qualify for oral rounds.
  • Selected teams must complete the Phase II Registration Form by 10th January 2026.
  • Fee: ₹4,500/- (inclusive of GST) – covers accommodation and food during the competition.

Awards & Prizes:

  • Winners: ₹22,000/- + Internship Opportunities
  • Runners-Up: ₹15,000/- + Internship Opportunities
  • Best Speaker: ₹7,000/- + Internship Opportunities
  • Best Notice of Opposition: ₹7,000/-
  • Best Counter-Statement: ₹7,000/-

Total cash prizes worth ₹58,000/- along with prestigious internship opportunities.

Important Dates:

  • Release of Problem Statement: 25 November 2024
  • Phase I Registration Deadline: 15 December 2025
  • Submission of Notice of Opposition: 20 December 2025
  • Submission of Counter-Statement: 30 December 2025
  • Written Submission Results: 5 January 2026
  • Phase II Registration Deadline: 10 January 2026
  • Oral Rounds: 24–25 January 2026
