Research Assistant (ICSSR Project) – Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram

About the Position:

Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, invites applications for the post of Full‑time Research Assistant under an Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) sponsored Minor Research Project.

The project, titled “Disaster‑Induced Displacement and the Denial of the Right to Adequate Housing: A Study on the Human Rights Crisis with Special Reference to Coastal Kerala and the District of Wayanad”, is led by Dr. Meenakumary S. (Project Director).

Established in 1875 by the visionary ruler of Travancore, GLC Thiruvananthapuram is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious law colleges. With over 150 years of academic excellence, the institution is renowned for its strong curriculum, extensive legal library, modern learning facilities, and vibrant culture of professional development. Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:

  • Hold a post‑graduate degree in Law (LL.M.), Human Rights, Habitat Studies, Social Work, or a related Social Science discipline.
  • Demonstrate empirical research skills, legal analytical capacity, and prior fieldwork experience in Kerala.
  • Preferably have prior exposure to environmental law or human rights research projects.
  • Be familiar with quantitative and qualitative research methods, including literature review, instrument development, data collection, and analysis.
  • Possess proficiency in MS Word, Excel, SPSS/NVivo or similar analytical tools.
  • Exhibit strong academic writing skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks within deadlines.

Duration & Remuneration:

  • Tenure: 10 Months (temporary, full‑time)
  • Salary: Rs. 37,000 per month (consolidated, as per ICSSR norms)

Key Responsibilities:

The Research Assistant will:

  • Undertake literature review, secondary data analysis, and documentation of research materials.
  • Coordinate and support field research activities, including logistics and stakeholder liaison.
  • Assist in questionnaire design, data transcription, data entry, coding, and statistical/qualitative analysis.
  • Contribute to academic writing outputs such as research papers, policy briefs, reports, and presentations.
  • Manage project‑related logistics, documentation, and communication.
  • Perform any other research‑related tasks assigned by the Project Team.
