Ph.D. Programme – 2026 Admissions
The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi invites applications for admission to its Ph.D. Programme in Law and Interdisciplinary Studies for the academic year 2026.
Programmes Offered
1. Ph.D. Programme in Law (Full‑time)
- Duration: 3 years
- Eligibility: LL.M. with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Differently‑Abled).
- Requirement: Full‑time presence during the course.
2. Interdisciplinary Ph.D. (Full‑time)
- Duration: 3 years
- Eligibility: Post‑Graduation in any stream with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Differently‑Abled).
- Requirement: Full‑time presence during the course.
3. Ph.D. Programme in Law & Interdisciplinary Ph.D. (Part‑time)
- Duration: 4 years
- Requirement: 30 days presence on campus each academic year.
- Mandatory: NOC from employer permitting part‑time study and attendance for coursework.
Admission Categories (UGC‑NET Based)
- Category 1: Qualified for JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Category 2: Qualified for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.
- Category 3: Qualified for admission to Ph.D. only.
- Category 1 (JRF): Admission based on interview as per UGC Regulations, 2022.
- Categories 2 & 3: Admission based on 70% weightage for test scores and 30% for interview.
Admission Process
- Candidates must submit a preliminary synopsis (8–10 pages) along with the application form.
- Admission will be based on combined merit of NET marks and viva voce performance.
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified on the University website.
- After enrollment, candidates must undergo coursework followed by a written examination.
- Only those who successfully complete coursework may submit the final synopsis.
- Final synopsis must be defended before a panel; upon approval, a suitable guide will be allocated.
Interdisciplinary Scope
The Ph.D. programme includes research in Law and Economics, Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, and Management, encouraging cross‑disciplinary scholarship.

- Hard copy submission: By 6 November 2026 to Registrar, NUSRL Ranchi, Nagri, P.O. Bukru, Ranchi Patratu Road, Kanke, Ranchi – 834006.
- Viva dates: To be notified on the University website.
