About HPNLU, Shimla:

Established in 2016 by the State Legislature (Act 16 of 2016), Himachal Pradesh National Law University is located amidst the Himalayan terrains. The University offers integrated undergraduate law programs, LL.M., Ph.D., and LL.D. courses. With a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and practice‑oriented legal education, HPNLU has set up several centres and committees, including the Legal Aid Clinic, to promote holistic student development.

About the Legal Aid Clinic:

The Legal Aid Clinic at HPNLU embodies the constitutional vision of Article 39A, ensuring access to justice for all. It provides free legal assistance, advice, and awareness to marginalized communities. Working closely with the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, the Clinic organizes legal awareness camps, outreach programs, and capacity‑building sessions. Its mission is to nurture socially responsible lawyers who contribute to both courtroom excellence and community empowerment.

Workshop Objectives:

The two‑day workshop aims to:

  • Familiarize participants with the conceptual foundations and institutional framework of the Right to Information Act, 2005.
  • Highlight RTI’s role in strengthening democratic governance, transparency, and citizen participation.
  • Provide practical knowledge on filing RTI applications and appeals, understanding Information Commissions, and addressing challenges in implementation.
  • Discuss judicial developments, administrative barriers, and reform perspectives to enhance transparency mechanisms in India.
