National Human Rights Commission – Online Short-Term Internship Programme (September 2026)
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), under Section 12(h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, continues its mandate of spreading awareness about the protection and promotion of human rights. Since 1998, NHRC has been conducting internship programmes to engage university students in human rights education and advocacy.
For September 2026, NHRC announces its Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI) scheduled from 14th to 25th September 2026. Applications are invited from eligible students across India.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students in 3rd year and onwards of any integrated 5-year PG course.
- Students in 3rd/final year of graduation courses.
- Students of any semester/year of postgraduate degree courses, including 3-year LL.B programmes.
- Students of any semester/year of postgraduate diploma courses.
- Research scholars in any stream.
Applicants must have secured minimum 60% marks in Class XII and in the first four semesters of graduation/five-year integrated courses. Percentage must be clearly calculated from CGPA/SGPA with formula provided.
Application Requirements
- A 250-word Statement of Purpose (SoP) on “Why I wish to join NHRC Online Short-Term Internship.” Preference will be given to students with research potential in human rights.
- Attested photocopies of mark-sheets (Class X, XII, and first four semesters).
- A Letter of Recommendation (LOR) from Principal/Dean/HOD in prescribed format (Annex-I).
- Applications missing SoP, mark-sheets, or LOR will be rejected.
- Students who have previously attended NHRC internships are not eligible.
- Applicants must be below 28 years of age as on 1st August 2026.
Programme Structure
The OSTI will be conducted full-time from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM (Monday–Friday). It will include:
- Interaction with NHRC Chairperson, Members, and senior Government officials.
- Group project work on human rights issues.
- Book review activities.
- Screening of films on child labour, bonded labour, trafficking, health, and education.
- Virtual field visits to jails, police stations, NGOs, and shelter homes.
Stipend & Certification
- Successful interns will receive a stipend of ₹2000.
- A Certificate of Participation will be awarded based on punctuality, discipline, active participation, and timely submission of project work and book reviews.
- Attendance in all sessions is mandatory; leave applications will not be entertained.
Application Process
- Deadline: 19th August 2026 (18:00 hours).
- Applications must be submitted online via NHRC’s website https://nhrc.nic.in or NHRC India Mobile App.
- Applications submitted via email/post will not be accepted.
- Discrepancies in marks/CGPA/percentage will lead to rejection and bar from future NHRC programmes.
- Final list of selected interns will be displayed on NHRC’s website.
